even I differ a bit on the RIP bit. I had a soft spot for the Browns since Brian Sipe when I was kid. What Art did to Cleveland was classless. haven't really cared one way or another about the Browns since they re-established a team. And even tho I love defense, because of modell, screw the ravens. Since it was all about money for him did he get to take any with him?
Packers fans owe Modell a big debt of gratitude. He pushed hard for revenue sharing (especially TV $$$) when it was not a popular idea, so without that there's no guarantee that small-market teams like the Packers would even exist today.

Funny thing about "what he did to Cleveland." The Browns were hemorrhaging money there. For 20-some years Modell paid rent to use Municipal Stadium, as well as paying for all upkeep. His reward was all revenue from its use, including Indians games. Once the Indians moved out, he was getting killed. The city was slow to help him, he got a sweet offer from Baltimore, and that was that. As a business owner, what would you have done?
I woulda held a bake sale and saved the Browns.

No one wants to call out the idiot politicians in Clevland for not supporting the Browns prior to the move. Modell left the colors and team name.

I still think of the Colts as being from Baltimore. Indianapolis can call themselves something else. And, oh yes, re-retire Unitas' number. They handled the transition about as badly as anyone could have. (I should say, Bob Irsay did.)

The state government of Maryland threatened to use eminent domain to take over the team. The Irsays had to leave in the middle of the night so that in the morning there would be nothing for the State to take over.
