When he made this kick (with Charlie Conerly holding) it was said he cleared the goalposts enough that it would have been good if it was 70 yards. I guess, considering how long he was in broadcasting, it's easy to forget what a great kicker he was.

Yeah, but the 3 are in a short period of time. Howard has been dead since 1995. The 3 would start with Summerall.
Pat was great!! But unfortunately, he hung around the booth a few years too many. While a much, much better announcer, at the end he reminded me a bit of Harry Caray's last few years: ill-prepared, uninformed and a bit kooky.

I really liked him in his hey-day, though! RIP!

Ah, there's a formula. Well, who knew. Smiler

Actually, they die in 155,000s. Threes wouldn't work with current population and reproductive rates. We'd be stacked like cordwood.

RIP Pat, not old enough to remember some Brokshire, but Madden and Summerall was the best in my opinion, unfortunately, broadcasting has slipped quite a bit.
RIP

So true. Other than maybe Al Michaels, I can't think of a single NFL announcer that might qualify as "legendary" working the airwaves these days.

When I think of guys like Curt Gowdy, Pat Summerall, Dick Enberg, Howard Cosell, I just thought those guys were tremendous and brought something special to the game. Other than Michaels to a point, I don't really feel that way about anybody these days.

You could add Jamesons and maybe even August Busch.
Forgot who it was that said, "When Pat was his best, he was listenings equivilent of 12 Year Old Scotch". That always struck me as a perfect description of Pat. The great ones respected the audiences intelligence.
