Yup, all those blown leads last year kept them from the wildcard.. For ****s sake Ron, be proactive.
I agree with Brainded. I think that just maybe John Axford was simply a flash in the pan. He most certainly doesn't appear to be an elite pitcher. He can throw the ball hard but apparently his fastball doesn't move, it's just fast. He has a good curve ball but he can't consistently throw it for a strikes. As well, he can't locate his fastball high, low, on the black part of the plate. I think I would look at Henderson as the closer and maybe use Ax as a set up, but I'd also have a quick hook with him too.
I definitely agree with the location talk. He needs command of the bender or he is toast.

Howver, labeling him a flash in the pan three games into 2013 is a stretch, IMO. He had dominant campaigns in 2010 and 2011. He had a bad 2/3 (maybe) of a season last year and then came on.

Closers in general are "flaky." Let's give him some more time.

With that being said, Figaro seems to fit the closer mode so hopefully RR doesn't stick too long with Ax if this continues.
Ax was given a very long leash last year....I sure hope RR learned something. The bullpen took this team out of the race almost single handedly last year and if we start falling apart this early some big time red flags should be going up! So far, the entire pitching staff looks way behind....will be an interesting 1st month of the season. I hope Loshe has a spectacular start to the season.....will make him a hot commodity if we have fallen out of contention come trade deadline....yes, looking way ahead and thinking the worst.
That's for certain- they need Lohse and Gallardo to both pitch like top organizational guys. Estrada is inconsistent in his career despite last year's success, Peralta a virtual rookie, and we don't know yet if Fiers can repeat last years 3 good months.

Your big arms better have the ability to stop the bleeding or you'll wind up 10 games under by May. Of course if the BP keeps serving up BP it won't matter what the starters do.

If he is good enough to trade, the Crew will be right there contending.

They'll be fine, that is 1 helluva lineup and the pitching depth, IMO, is solid top to bottom. Nothing awesome but very solid.

Like the way our big boys are hittin already and just need a few breaks, do not see long losing streaks provided Ax is on a short leash at the end of games.
