NFL: The case for Aaron Rodgers
His age in 2019: 36
His team:
The Packers. They said so-long to Brett Favre to make room for Rodgers. He is their franchise guy.
Player of the Decade credentials: He has great touch, accuracy and mobility and gets better every year. And unlike running backs, quarterbacks play at a high level well into their 30s. G.M. Ted Thompson drafts well, and coach Mike McCarthy is solid. The Packers and Rodgers should have a nice run.

Darren Sharper was a misfit in his first 2-3 yrs with the Packers. Remember when Broncos WR, Ed McCaffrey literally dragged Sharper 10-12 yds into the endzone for a TD...back in Denver in 1999. I was there, what an embarassing play that was.

Bush might yet rise to some glory. Like him or not, we need to cheer for the guy to make some plays over the next two and hopefully more games.
"Aaron Rodgers is a Pro Bowl quarterback, and that's the facts," McCarthy said. "Trust me, I fully understand the greatness of Brett Favre, and I had the opportunity to be part of his career, and he deserves everything that comes his way.

"But this is the beginning of potentially another great career at quarterback here in Green Bay, and (fans) should embrace it."

Good health willing we could have another HOF quarterback. The TD/int ratio is amazing. One of A-Rod's greatest assets is looking off safties to open the deep passing game. I see A-Rod making improvements in pocket awareness. Experience will help him recognize defenses quicker improving all parts of his game.

TT just need to protect him with a good offensive line and some weapons RB/WR's

He's got plenty of receivers, plus a future super star at TE with one that has been good in goal situations. Grant's a solid power RB, Jackson is a capable backup, and they can't make a bad choice out of their current group at FB. I agree they need to draft LT for sure in the 1st round next year, and look at a possible replacement for Colledge. Spitz, Sitton, and Lang however, will do their part in the mean time.

Goalline's a soccer fan; you need to tell him to suck it

Simply the dumbest guy in all of sports. No contest! Man was given one of the most talented squads in the world including the best player, and he barely squeeked in. The only sucking going on was being performed by him.

It's crazy to think that they get rid of Favre and his replacement (Rodgers) has actually played BETTER than Brent at the toughest position to play in football.

Think of it another way- they showed the list of Bears starting QBs over the last 20 years and not one of them put up 1 year like Rodgers has had and #12 has now done it (great year) in his first two seasons as the starting QB.

I guess my point is that we are damn lucky/fortunate to have a guy of his ability.

I also think this team has a lot of good young talent on the roster- namely guys like Finley and Raji and Matthews III that could become dominant players at their positions to go along with Rodgers, and they have a nice compliment of vets right now (Jennings, Woodson, Barnett, Collins, etc) and we have a lot to look forward to IMO.

Think about the end of last season how the sky was falling and fast forward ahead one year?
Let's look at the ages of others in contention for MVP of the decade (age is before the next NFL season, I took top 10 plus select other young starters):

Brees, 31
Rivers, 28
TOG, 40
Rodgers, 26
P. Manning, 34
Schaub, 29
Roethlisberger, 28
T. Brady, 33
Romo, 30
McNabb, 33
E. Manning, 29
Flacco, 25
V. Young, 27
M. Ryan, 25
Henne, 25
A. Smith, 25

Out of these, I don't expect anyone in their 30's to play into their 40's like TOG, save for Peyton Manning who IMO will play until he breaks TOG records. He should be added into the conversation if he plays for 7 more years.

The main competition from the younger QBs are Roethlisberger (can that body play 10 more years?), Rivers, E. Manning (1 SB win), Flacco, and Ryan. These have significant # of wins and decent stats. I see a healthy competition with Rivers and maybe Ryan, but if I were an accurate fortune teller, I wouldn't be posting here.
