I know a lot of people were screaming, "Get rid of the ball!" on the offense's last play, but I actually didn't mind him taking the sack. If I had to guess, MM's instructions were to make the play if someone was definitely open, but to be smart...don't force it for an incompletion or a turnover (stating the obvious there). The reason being that the sack kept the clock running to the two minute warning. If Rodgers throws an imcompletion there, we essentially give the Eagles another timeout with saving the two-minute warning for them.

Agreed. I thought a play action call on 2nd down would have been money. Go for the jugular. If we pick up the first down, the game is essentially over. Don't give it back to them if you don't have to.
I agree with going play action on 2nd. down. If I'm Philly, I see running on 2nd. and long as a signal that GB has forgotten how they got the lead in the first place, and that makes them easy pickings.
There's nothing wrong with going play action on first down as well. I understand MM is scared to death of an incompletion stopping the clock in that situation, but there are plenty of high percentage passing plays available and you have to trust AR and your players to make a play.

They could have closed on that drive and ended up making it much more difficult than it needed to be.
MM sometimes still takes the ball out of AR's hands on last drives or late in games. It's like he doesn't want him to make a mistake.

I take it as a hangover from the TOG days when we could count on TOG tossing an interception late in the game to give the other team a final shot. Big Grin
