Emulating Favre has done wonders for his career. I respect what Favre accomplished in GB, the man not so much, but to say Favre was the only reason the team returned to prominence is stupid. SB teams aren't made up of one player, if they were then Adrian Peterson, Barry Sanders, and JJ Watt would each have multiple SBs. Would you say the great 49ers teams were 100% Joe Montana or the great Patriot teams were 100% Tom Brady? Bill Walsh or Bill Belichick were along for the ride I guess.

now, now, Hungry, don't be an "ageist".

I remember the Lombardi years...but only through the eyes of a young kid.  I do remember watching the 1964 NFL Championship when the Browns won it (I was rooting for the Colts...because I liked their helmet better).  But I do remember the watching the Packers in the '65 season and remember watching the Championship game against the Browns.  I was 7 then.  So, for the next few years all I thought was that the Packers always won championships.

But I really didn't "understand" the game until a few years later.   So, Romo could've been a fan before Farvre.

Oh Romo, show me your rings and we'll talk.

Just for fun let's swap out some names and see how it reads...

โ€œWithout Troy Aikman, the Dallas Cowboys really arenโ€™t the Dallas Cowboys, even though they have a great history and Tom Landry and everything else that goes into it. I was watching football before they had Troy Aikman and Dallas was not someone that you had to worry about on your schedule if you were playing in the NFL. I think he brought them back to prominence and made that organizationโ€™s standard of excellence and from there all the pieces started to fall into place. What you see today, that is a byproduct of him, his talent, his ability, his knowledge of the game, his passion, his work ethic and really his willingness to compete. I still look up to him.

Dallas has been lucky enough to (eventually) go from Troy to Tony Romo and thatโ€™s just unrealistic in real life to have that happen in professional sports. But Troy getting inducted (to Pro Football Hall of Fame) is one of the most no-brainer things thatโ€™s ever taken shape."

Meanwhile Tony Romo will tease greatness but never quite delivers.

You think he was walking around the EastTowne Mall and started randomly talking about Favre?  I'm guessing he was asked a question like "What do you think Favre's legacy in Green Bay will be?" and he answered it.  He didn't say anything that made Rodgers look worse.  He undersold what other contributions took place to make that Favre superbowl take place, but I don't think he was asked, "What lead up to, and contributed to the superbowl victory over the Patriots?".

For ****s sake Packer fans, when people get pissy over **** like this we sound like viking fans acting like any quote out of context hurts our feelings.

I like Tony Romo, but that said, he is wrong.

The Packers' organization hit their low point in 1986 (Lofton traded due to 2 sexual assault charges, Mossy Cade raped a family member, the team went 4-12 as Forrest Gregg gutted the talent).  I'd say it did begin the turnaround in 1992 with Wolf, Holmgren, and Favre all spearheading the charge.  Favre was a major part of it, but I agree that it was basically a complete organizational turnaround, not just in players but in philosophy of how the team was structured.

Yes, there was 1 year transition period after Favre left, but after that transitional year, you could make the case that this period of Packers' history with TT, McCarthy, and Rodgers is every bit as strong and maybe even stronger than the strongest years of the Favre era.

I think Romo probably has a stronger relationship to Favre though I don't know that for a fact.  That probably clouds his judgment of the situation a bit.

Lotta #hottakes and projection in here man.

A QB highlighting that he admires the QB of the team he followed as a youth?  SHOCKING  WHAT A LOSER MAN!  WHY DIDN'T YOU POINT OUT THE VALUE OF THE PRESIDENT OR GM OR WAYNE SIMMONS MAN?  DUM!

A kid in his formative years that dreamed of played QB followed a QB that was loved by many, and especially by the media, that regardless of his personal issue was still the hands down best player in the league 1995-1997, still looks back at that player fondly?  WHAT A DICK.  AND BESIDES HE NEVER WON A SUPER BOWL

Tony Romo, a QB, loves a QB that he followed as a teen?

Surprised you had any free hands to type this since your hugging Romo's nuts so hard. This place is for Packer fans bro, not Favre or Romo fans. Start hugging AR/TT/MM's nuts or get gone bozo.

Besides, a dumb take is a dumb take whether it comes from oldwhiteschool or Tony Romo.

Favre gave them legitimacy again on the field. Wolf (and then Holmgren) knew they needed to get that franchise signal caller. Then Wolf could turn to Reggie and say "look we have this young, upcoming star at QB who has all the talent to get us a Super Bowl, and we're building a team that can be a serious contender, but we could use your leadership as much as your talent. You want a ring, together we have the team who can get it. Oh, and here's a metric crapton of cash to boot. "

God told #92 to go to GB....Lobo had nothing to do with it
