Great history with Indiana tackles
More offense!!
Spamming O-line like he did receiver two years ago.
Have a feeling he'll be better than the other recent Indiana tackle (very low bar).
Edit: He's apparently a guard. Still will be a better player than Spriggs.
The Packers continued to upgrade their offensive line depth with Simon Stepaniak.
With the Packers picking up two OG's it makes Lane Taylor's position as the top reserve OG a bit shakey. Taylor is entering the final year of his contract, costing the Packers $5.4875M on the cap with a $1.375M dead cap hit if cut.
He needs to perform well to earn his roster spot.

Please cut him.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Lane Taylor start at RG and Billy Turner compete with Wagner at RT.
Billy Turner was pretty rough at times last year. Not very confident he could make the move to RT.
Well, not so sure I want to see Turner playing RG either...IMO, would be worth the try. Runyan can help compete at the RG spot with Lane Taylor and Simon Stepaniak and Cole Madison. Seems to be a lot more possible able bodies at RG.
Watch the RIGHT GUARD #72 ππ½π₯#Packers rookie 6th round pick OL Simon Stepaniak has some NASTY & finish to his game! @IndianaFootball - his tape got me fired up!
Not shy about looking for work! Love seeing that @DavidBakhtiari@Big_E_14@Linsley71pic.twitter.com/CTBTXEptHdβ Ben Fennell (@BenFennell_NFL) April 27, 2020
How do I get the video clip to show up?
Packers placed him on retired/reserve list today. Sounds like heβs done with football.
Any background here?
Blew his ACL before bowl game, never recovered.
My guess is he may have had a set back, or never fully recovered and just figured it was time to move on in life.
He made two runs at playing; in December last year they activated him for a couple weeks of practice, he wasn't ready, so GB elevated Ben Braden instead
Then again this year they tried him in OTAs and TC, same deal - he can't go.
So GB put him on reserve/retire list, which means he's retiring from game - but GB retains his rights if he heals up/changes his mind. He will pocket $ 750K + medical coverage... and its time for his next adventure.
Poor guy.

He didn't have much of an NFL career, but he does have 1 worthy footnote:
Stepaniak was the first "mauler" type OL that Gutekunst drafted. After a decade of drafting former LT's to play OG in GB - the Packers OL philosophy has undergone a shift in terms of what they are looking for physically.
While the entire NFL is trending toward lighter/faster defenders, GB is pivoting back to their smashmouth roots and acquiring bigger, more brutish OL.
Pound 'em with the running game to open the passing game. Best defense, at least for GB, may just be an offensive that controls the ball for 6+ minute TD drives.

Love the trend. Letβs maul them.
Funny how football (and other sports) is cyclical.
While the fans are cynical.
