On a chilly Wednesday morning, and for the first time since being suspended for 65 games by Major League Baseball, Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun addressed the media.

Braun's appearance came at the end of his taking food donations outside Helfaer Field, in the shadow of Miller Park.

With temperatures hovering around 15 degrees and a brisk wind blowing, Braun stood in front of a bank of microphones and after an initial welcome opened the floor to questions.

With that, the media fired away.

Why did you lie?

"Obviously I’ve been through a lot and as I expressed in my statement that I felt was pretty lengthy and specific, I got into a lot of details at that point. I’m not really going to go into any further details. I’m deeply remorseful about what happened. I wish I had the ability to go back and change things and do things a lot differently, but unfortunately I can’t do that. All I can do is move on and try to do everything in my power to earn back peoples’ trust and respect and support. I don’t anticipate being able to earn back everybody’s support, but I certainly intend to do everything in my power to do that and I won’t stop trying."

What do you have to say to the kids who have looked up to you?

"I’ve always been incredibly appreciative of everybody’s support. I made a mistake – a huge mistake that has obviously been extremely difficult to deal with and will continue to be difficult to deal with. All I can say is in making mistakes, as I’ve stated previously, we all deal with adversity. We all deal with challenges in life. Any challenge you face, you have an opportunity to view as either an obstacle or as an opportunity to grow from, to learn from and to help other people avoid making that same mistake, and that’s what I intend to do."

What was worse in your opinion, using PEDs or lying about it after the fact?

"As I’ve stated, the goal for me is just being able to move forward. I’m not going to get into too many specifics about what happened other than saying I’m extremely remorseful. I wish that I could go back and change things but I don’t have that opportunity to do that, so I’m just going to do everything in my power to move forward."

Have you apologized to Dino Laurenzi, or made any payments to him?

"I have not made any payments to him. I’ve had some really productive and positive conversations with him. The Laurenzi family was actually gracious and kind enough to have my fiancÉe Larisa and I over to their house for dinner last night, and we had some really good conversation. We’ve made amends and I think we’re both excited to be able to move forward and put this behind us."

If you can still hit like you did Brauny, you have my forgiveness.

If you can't hit, get out of town you bum ...

, its really that simple for me.

There are lot of guys that were obviously on something and never got caught (Votto and Pujols were obvious in our division).

Still hope he's traded.

"I swear by mothers name, I didn't do it" (or something to that effect)

I can't believe a single word that comes out of his mouth.

Bert and Braun should write a book about talking bullsh*t.

Yeah, it is working out for him.  Still want him traded.

I can't understand the huge hypocrisy by Brewer fans.  The same ones that were calling for the heads of Bonds, McGwire, and Sosa.  How they lied in front of Congress.  How the home run record should have an asterisk.

Now they want to "forgive" Braun?  Why?  Simply because he is a Brewer?

Absolutely a double standard.

I wasn't, and am not, calling for the heads of anyone.  I don't care about PEDs anymore than I care about spitballs or corked bats.  I don't buy into the ESPN and old timey sportswriter fueled narratives about it.

Every generation of baseball player (and hell every single athlete) has tried to find ways to cheat the system in order to gain an advantage.  From dried monkey testicle elixirs to spitballs to nail files to thumbtacks to bent eyelets of gloves to wedding rings to sandpaper to greenies to red juice to stealing signs to altering the field to corked bats to superballs to PEDs.  Every single generation of ballplayer cheated in some way.  Yet, PEDs are worse somehow? Because?  Because Buster Olney tells you?

I'm not even getting into why certain medicinal procedures that improve an athlete's performance or ability to recover  is totally A-OK, yet another medicinal procedure that improves and athlete's performance or ability to recover is banned and means they are horrible horrible people.

Speaking of hypocrisy and double standards, I find it interesting that many of the same people clutching their pearls over the "cheatin PED users" find the old timey stories of Mantle's corked bats or Gaylord Perry throwing spitters or Willie Mays popping greenies by the handful as eclectic and funny.   HAHA WHITEY FORD USED HIS WEDDING RING TO SCUFF BALLS.  WHAT A COMPETITOR!  OH BTW WE NEED TO TRADE RYAN BRAUN FOR SULLYING THIS PERFECT GAME OF BASEBALL!  WHAT EVER SHALL I TELL MY CHILDREN!!!

Athlete's in every sport (especially baseball!) have always tried to find ways to game the system.  In other news, water is wet.  It continues to amaze me why some forms of cheating are acceptable and other forms of cheating makes someone the worlds greatest monster.  Cheating is cheating.

Buster Olney and any writer for that matter can suck it.

I don't need anyone to tell me how to form my opinions.

I agree 100% about the double standard regarding all the various forms of cheating.  Don't know if I agree that makes it o.k., but I understand the point.

My opinion regarding him being traded is not based on the fact he took PED's.  It's based on the fact he threw everyone else under the bus to protect his name.  Whether it was Aaron Rodgers, or his Mom, he was going to protect his precious image.

If he would have admitted his guilt after the initial test, I could have eventually got over it.  Because as you said, everyone cheats.  He just got caught.

Not happy Braun went in front of everyone and pretty sanctimoniously told everyone he was clean.

Also glad I'm not judged on my decision making in my twenties.  I ****ed up enough, and there wasn't even millions of dollars on the line.
