MM was very pawsitive in his comments about EDS and the work he has done in the offseason- they are expecting improvement and he may be slated as the game day back- up at all 3 interior slots
Interesting, I was hoping that EDS wouild play better and continue to improve, with more work and OTA's, etc. It would seem that Datko is probably not C material, with his injury issues, but MM and TT have a better handle on that than I do.

I think it's safe to say, by not drafting a C, that TT and MM think they have a future C on the team already, since this year was a deep at the C position.

Agree with this... wonder if Sampson has a spot this year on the 53 or back to the PS?
I was wondering about all of the interior line depth after the draft. Seems to be the thinnest position on an otherwise stacked offense.

I think EDS probably is the top backup at each spot as Satori said.

Don't think that's the case. You can't address everything in one draft. Best guess is that they think they're fine for this year with Saturday backed up by EDS, maybe Genus. They can draft their future C high next year -- unless they want to move Lang to C in 2013 and then draft his replacement.
Since Mike Brewster went undrafted I was hoping we could sign him after the draft but Jacksonville did. Maybe TT tried and couldn't get him. I thought Brewser was rated fairly high and was expected to get drafted so I thought he would be a great pick up as an UDFA and as a position of need for us you would think he would be interested in the Packers.
I hardly think TT is done tweaking the roster just because the draft is over and the UDFA's have been signed. We still have three months to go before TC, and a new backup C prospect could even arrive during cutdowns.
I guess I was under the impression that the C position was extremely deep this year in the draft. It would make sense that next year, the C position will not be nearly as deep, so if we have a need, then we would get one this year, and groom for Saturday's replacement.

Now, maybe all the C's that we targeted were reaches, with where we were, and couldn't trade, maybe we have a plan for a C in next years draft? Maybe we'll use a TE, since we'll be in shotgun all year?

Going into the draft, everyone on this board said we would take a C somewhere late rounds, to groom, it didn't happen. I'm sure TT knows whats up, I'm just trying to read the TT leaves.
PackerRuss, FWIW, I think you're spot on: that C was a relatively deep position this year, and every Packer writer and fan expected Thompson to grab a developmental C in the mid-rounds. So I think we're all surprised that didn't happen. Why is anyone's guess. But if Thompson thought it was critical, I would think he would've moved up or down to match need with value -- as he did with Worthy, Hayward & Manning -- and grabbed one. So I can only conclude he thought it wasn't as critical as the needs on defense, and by the time those were addressed, the quality wasn't there. I was surprised guys like Brewster and Saulsberry went undrafted. More surprised he didn't sign a C as one of the UDFAs. Maybe he'll address with perhaps another pick-up this year -- a trade (ala Ryan Grant), someone's cut -- but the odds those paths will yield our center of the future doesn't seem likely. So I'm guessing that guy is in next year's draft.
I do not think Ted is happy with the combination of Saturday and EDS at center but is something he can live with. I suspect he did plan to draft a true center type but events during the draft changed his plans. When Worthy dropped Ted went and got him just like he did Mathews. Then Ted was able to get back into the second to take the guy he originally wanted,Haywood. Daniels and McMillan were guys Ted had target in the 4th, especially McMillan. They were watching him for a couple of years. I think Manning was a guy that Ted had value as a 4th round pick. Ted must of thought that Darko was high a risk/reward guy and wanteed to take a chance on him. Then he wanted a QB out of this draft so he took Colman.
To Ted I suspect that getting both Worthy and Haywood is worth the risk of going with EDS as a back up ceneter.
Saturday:

Praise for Campen (used the word respect) and McCarthy
GB was #1 on his list - midwest, great tradition
Not concerned about the Nov/Dec/Jan weather after playing in a dome
GB is football country - great atmosphere in the month he's been there

Confirmed the two key factors of a Center that AR12 commented on (butt height and sweat). Saturday grades high in both categories... called his lack of butt sweat a gift.

Look for the podcast later today on the ESPNMilwaukee site.

He had commented that his family was on board with GB too, its an easy transition from Indy. Perfect match and buys GB some time to win another Championship and to groom his replacement. The smarts factor is a big deal too, and Saturday has been battle tested in the playoffs. Should be a great pickup
