The defensive line coach for a Green Bay opponent this season was offering his appraisal of the Packers' offensive linemen when he came to center Jeff Saturday.
"Their two best are Bulaga and Sitton," the coach said last week. "Lang third. Newhouse is fourth. And Jeff's Jeff."
The assistant made the remark regarding Saturday without admiration, respect or disparagement in his voice. Rather, it was mere acknowledgment that Saturday will do what he always has done, and that always has been more than good enough throughout his career.
"They're not going to say this guy can't play anymore because that's a slam at Ted (Thompson)," a skeptic in the coaching ranks said. "They're not ever going to tell you that."
