1. He’s now the Green Bay Packers quarterback, thanks to Aaron Rodgers’ injury last week and the groin injury suffered by backup Seneca Wallace early in Sunday’s game.

2. Tolzien was only elevated from the practice squad on Tuesday.

3. It’s pronounced toll-ZEEN.

4. In 2011 and 2012, Tolzien was the third-string quarterback behind Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick in San Francisco. He never appeared in a regular season game. Tolzien’s main job was serving as the scout-team quarterback who would emulate the quarterbacks the 49ers were playing that week.

5. Tolzien was cut by the 49ers before Week 1, then was quickly snatched up by Green Bay, who happened to be playing the Niners that Sunday. The Packers also signed another 49ers cast-off prior to that game: Seneca Wallace. Tolzien stayed on the practice squad until he was signed after Rodgers’ injury.

6. Some information on Tolzien’s high school days from his Rivals.com profile: “Palatine (Ill.) Fremd quarterback Scott Tolzien, who made official visits to Toledo and Kentucky, didn’t need to take a Big Ten official visit to know he wants to play his college football in that conference.” Tolzien, a two-star recruit according to Rivals, ended up picking Wisconsin.

7. He was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award in his senior season at Wisconsin. Others nominated included current NFL starters Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton and Christian Ponder. Tolzien led the Badgers to a 2011 Rose Bowl berth

8. Tolzien grew up in Illinois in a family of Bears fans. That didn’t stop him for rooting for Brett Favre and the Packers. “I was the lone soldier,” he told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

9. This post would have gone up earlier, but when Tolzien entered the game, there were no pictures of him wearing a Packers uniform on the photo wires

With some practice, I think he might just do fine for the Packers.

Luv Scotty's smarts and I'll pray he does well ... but those bat-downs brings back nightmares about that Rosebowl.

The slingin-Sammy-Baugh low release is going to continue to get batted-down, so brace yourselves Pack fans.

IMO, MM needs to go 2TE's, 2WR's, 1 RB sets on 2nd/3rd short and throw on first down A LOT out of RB/FB running formations. JMO

When asked what he can take away from his experiences at Wisconsin, playing in big games against Ohio State and at the Rose Bowl, Tolzien didn’t talk about crowd noise or halftime adjustments. All he talked about was putting in the work, every single day.

“The preparation week is where you make your hay,” Tolzien said. “You have to win the week first. That’s where a lot of the wins and losses come. It’s how you approach the week leading up to the game. That’s the best way to combat pressure, to prepare the right way.”

McCarthy said Tolzien has been around the facility constantly, not just this week but since he was signed to the practice squad in Week 1. The two were discussing the Giants game plan on Tuesday as late as 9:30 p.m.

“The man loves it, and you have to appreciate his work ethic,” McCarthy said, uttering those familiar words again. “It’s refreshing, and it’s good for everybody. He’s going about it the right way.”

Flynn said he’s plenty comfortable already with the playbook as far as the passing game, but he’ll need some time to get up to speed with the changes made in the running game.

Flynn confessed he never thought he’d be back in Green Bay after leaving as a free agent in early 2012 with an eye on becoming a starter.

“It definitely didn’t go the way I planned,” said Flynn, who also dismissed concerns about his elbow and proclaimed his throwing arm fine.

“Since I’ve left here, I’ve learned three different playbooks, three different terminologies, three different philosophies on how to attack defense, how to do footwork this way or that way.

“But I’ve been ingrained in this offense for so long, knew it inside and out, was fluent in the language, fluent in what we’re trying to do, that it’s come back pretty quickly, and I see myself having it down pretty close to 100 percent very soon.” continue

Hard for something to have an effect when it's only the base for a clipboard. He sure hasn't used that elbow much since training camp -- probably less than I have watching our defense the past several weeks as I drink my way through the games...

I'm thinking of burning my Seneca Wallace jersey already.
