The tweets below capture some aspects perhaps worth discussing. Tom Oates just nails it.

@adbrandt: Sean Payton reported $8M per year extension will have ripple effect on other top coach negotiations, in NFL and beyond. Major deal.

‏@TomOatesWSJ: So you endorse bounty system, lie about it, tell others to lie, ruin team's season and ... become NFL's highest-paid coach. What a league.

Well, whaddaya know, another thread chockful of butthurt devoted to the Saints and anything related to the so-called "Bounty-gate".

C'mon guys, it's time to get over it and yourselves. Although I don't agree with all of the allegations made against the Saints (most of them have turned out to be unfounded) and the league's handling of it (Tagliabue was called in merely to clean up Goodell's mess and help him save face), what's done is done and I'm more than ready to move on from it. Payton has served his suspension (it ends February 4th) and has every right to resume his career. Also, if the Saints front office sees fit to pay him $8 million per year, that's their perogative. If that's what the market will bear, so much the better. Let it go.

The whole Saints organization should of been banned for the 2012 season.

That's just a little over the top, don't you think?

Banning the entire team would be overkill. Doing so would punish players that had absolutely nothing to do with whatever happened. The offensive players weren't involved, nor were any defensive players that joined the Saints in 2012. And ultimately, the fans of the New Orleans Saints suffered most of all though they did nothing.

No, I think the lifetime ban of Williams, and the suspensions that were handed down were punishment enough. They all deserve a second chance.
