How awesome a name is "Belt" for a home run hitter?

I'd be happier if his last name was "Consistent."

Giants are living through the result of 3 world championships, and all the associated consequences...low draft picks, top prospects traded away to fill immediate needs, and not being able to replace key players who were more about team chemistry than their ability.

They've severed ties to a lot of great locker room and rah-rah guys...so now you have a lot of guys with ability, that don't get anyone motivated. Posey, Panik, Crawford, Belt, Bumgarner, Cain, Span...all introverts.

Truth be told, it's OK. They've won 3 more championships than I'd ever have expected in my life time. As long as the Dodgers or Cardinals (or now Cubs) don't win another one, I will be happy.

The bottom line is the numbers show them in the middle of the pack which makes them mediocre. It was a thin pen coming into the season and everybody knew that. Also add in the fact that the starters failing to go deep into the games early on has put a strain on these guys. Look at the numbers. One could  also factor in the productivity of the offense. This offense has kept this team in games and has made some great comebacks to, again, put an obvious weak area of the team in a vulnerable position. Who is at fault today? The pen or the offense for making a great comeback and not getting in a guy from third with no outs to walk off?

Now, what can they do about it. I don't think they feel they are in the position to start dealing prospects for wild card bullpen help. There also isn't anything out there. Ask the Twins and the Nationals, two other teams atop their divisions with very shaky pens. What I would like to see is maybe Hader come up and have a bullpen role initially. Maybe Jungmann as well. The Dirty Birds seem to have success with guys starting in the pen and then starting eventually. See Lynn and Wainwright. Now, I will note that I don't see that being something other teams do but maybe that could be an option.

Bottom line (part 2) is this team is in a spot that no one could have expected. However, the front office is kinda in a tough spot. The offense appears it can contend but the starting staff, despite recent success, has no pedigree behind it. I have loved everything DS has done since taking over. Should be fun and interesting to see how they handle the rest of the year.

My thought is that they are playing way above expectations right now and will likely come back to reality as we get to the middle of the season, as much as that will suck.  But I don't think they should fool themselves into thinking they are a bullpen pitcher or two away from really contending and start trying to deal.  Keep building for the future like planned.  I'm enjoying the ride so far--did not expect this.

The front office is in a great spot.  First of all, are people coming to the park.  Second of all, the talent is showing earlier than expected.  Ride this out and keep growing.  I agree, trading prospects for bullpen help is pre-mature (I also don't expect the pitching to keep up like it is, but what do I know..).

The kids are fun to watch.

And here is your bullpen help
