SHARPER OUT IN MINNY?

Vikings safety Darren Sharper, who was signed after being jettisoned by the Packers two seasons ago, could now be on his way out of Minnesota.

Sharper was benched in the fourth quarter of the Vikings' loss to the Rams after St. Louis running back Steven Jackson broke free for a touchdown run that pushed the score to 41-7.

Regarding whether he'll be back, Sharper said: "I don't know. I'd like to, but that's never up to me to make that decision. I'm under contract, so I guess I'd say I am coming back. Until I'm told differently. We'll see. . . . Whenever you don't finish a game out and you want to be out there playing, you always raise questions about [the future]."

The Vikings' 6-10 record, featuring a pathetic 2-8 finish after a 4-2 start, gave Sharper the first losing record of his entire career.

"Ten years and I've never had a losing record, and that's something," he said. "That's kind of hard this year to deal with that, end of season, seeing 6-10. That's terrible. I've never experienced that and don't want to experience it again."

Depending on what he wants, I wouldn't be opposed to bringing Darren back in a backup/mentor capacity. Seriously. I know he has mouthed off alot, but really I think he is a good guy who is joking most of the time. I think he would be a good mentor for some of the young DBs. Obviously the guys skills have diminished, but he still posesses some leadership qualities.

Too much "Look At Me".

I agree with PhxPacker. Leave the football coaching to football coaches. I could see Darlene helping a young player with his dance moves (especially after giving up a 20-yard play) and how to look and talk pretty for cameras, but for "mentoring"...not so much.

He wasn't joking when he ripped into TT - the man who makes the personnel decisions. The chances of Sharper coming back are about the same as the chances of TT hiring Mike Sherman to be the assistant GM.

Mostly I want him back because I have a Darren Sharper jersey that is obviously useless now!!
I think you will see a lot of people looking to jump ship in Minnesota. Its obvious that Chilli Dipper has lost this team after one season. I was reading the Strib articles on line and the players seemed to have quit on him before yesterday's attempt at playing a game......There are some interesting times ahead in Minnesota.....painful interesting times.

He possesses no leadership skills and never has. He's a player with talent that does nothing unless he's surrounded by exceptional talent. I wouldn't put that stiff anywhere near rookies or even consider him a mentor. He's a "me"tor.

And I don't want Sharper going anywhere after the dismal season he's put in so far, either. The longer he stays with the Queenies, the better I like it. And I'm sure Viking fans feel the same way.

LoBabe, I think you should be sitting ON Brett's bowflex...preferably while he's using it.

No, please don't do it! They're a perfect fit for each other: a lousy player on a lousy team.

Well maybe Houston will pick him up so he can be reunited with Sherman. That would be another fine match: a lousy coach and his lousy ex- and future-player.

I know it's fun to rip Sherman, but the guy was not a lousy coach. He certainly had room for improvement, (playoff record, in-game adjustments, Tom Rossley, etc.) but he created the most successful running game in Packer history when he was here. This has nothing to do with coaching, but he was also a stand-up guy - someone I pulled for. We've had much much worse than Sherman in GB.

I don't know how anybody can support Sherman. He practically ruined the the organization and wasted 5 years of Favre's career.
