I was thinking about this as I was listening to sports radio on how great Andrew Luck is since the greatest comeback of all time.  I was thinking about how the Colts tanked their season so they could draft him.

Maybe it's time the NFL did a "lottery" type of drawing to determine the draft order similar to the what the NBA does...except only the 8 worst teams in the league get to be in that lottery.  This way, you wouldn't see teams not trying their best to win games (like the Colts did).

Maybe the drawback might be for teams to tank enough just to get into the top 8?

No.  The NFL is exactly what they want it to be: a cash machine with the type of parody that gives almost every fan base the idea that they have a chance to win it all in any given year.

Guys like Luck come around once in a decade.  Only guys I can think of that were truly franchise changers with the first pick were Elway and Manning.  That's three players in 30 years.  No reason to change the draft b/c 10% of the time a team may tank.

What CU said. Nope. Keep it as it is.

Franchises like GB and NE (5 straight years of playoff appearances) know what they are doing for the most part.

IDOTS like Synder and Jerruh will continue to not have fu**** clue. There is no need to help them out.

ha

sorry I wasn't clear....I didn't mean to sound like I agreed with my theory...just throwing it out there to discuss as I hadn't thought through all of the negatives about it.....I just have a bit of disgust for the way Polian and the Colts tanked the season, that's all.

The NBA lottery isn't perfect either.  In fact, there are a lot of conspiracy theorists (me being one of them) that believe it's rigged.

The Minnesota Timberwolves had like the worst record in the NBA 3 years in a row and two of those years the brand new and shiny Orlando Magic won the lottery and got Shaq and Penny Hardaway.  The Knicks got Patrick Ewing years before that with the "frozen envelope."  I'm sure there are other examples.

I'd rather the NBA do it the way the NFL does myself.  Worst record gets the best overall pick.

I'm sure Polian's plan was to tank himself right out  of a job.  And Mike Shanahan wanted to get St. Louis the #1 choice too.

Agree with NBA lottery being rigged. Stern goes through the merry go round & chooses the team that will fit best with the player. Control.

The NFL is slightly rigged too. Why do they continue to have geriatrics trying to keep up with world class athletes? Control.

Too much money involved with sports. These leagues have to do what's in the best interest of the league to keep the cash flow coming in.

Another no vote here. There are already too many rule changes that over complicate/change the game we grew up with as it is.

As far as the NBA and NFL being rigged to favor big money or whatever. I would be shocked if wasn't rigged in some way or another.

Every team has a representative present during the ping pong party.  Lots of people have to be "in" on the fix.

Allegedly.

More examples of NBA lottery rigging?  How about when the league owned New Orleans team won it in 2012?   Or Cleveland twice - the year they drafted local hero Lebron and the following year after he bailed to Miami in free agency?  Or big market Chicago with a 1% chance and they landed the 1st pick and took another local guy in Derrick Rose?

No to the lottery

ammo...I'm not sure what you're getting at...but, maybe Polian wasn't in on it...but he didn't do anything to prepare the roster's depth chart really?   Phil Collins and Painter at QB?  that would be like TT staying with Seneca Wallace all the while AR was out.

also, after they started losing games they should've won..I started watching them a bit closer....I saw Wayne fumble a game away....only thing, he wasn't hit...there were other things, too....and, I could be wrong...but, I did watch  many of their games albeit "looking" for certain things to see if they were at least trying...and the more the season went on...the more they looked like they were NOT trying to win...except the last 2 games when they had the #1 pick locked.
