Have heard some interesting dialogue on this recently after Goodell defended the name. I will admit that I thought 100% they should change it until I heard a Native American's email to Dan Barreiro (a radio program up here). Basically he compared it to "Yankees" which was once a derogatory term used by the British against American soldiers back in the Revolutionary War days and now isn't considered demeaning at all. I will also mention there were just as many or more emails, calls, etc. from Native Americans wanting the name gone. Where do we stand?

(Note: If this is too political, remove. There has been several threads that have evolved into political discussion lately so I thought this would fly. Plus it is NFL-related.

There's no question there are racial overtones with it, and yet honestly I associate Redskins completely with the football team and completely forget about the fact that it can also be used as a derogatory term.

I'm almost 50/50 on the issue. If I had some American Indian ancestry in me, I might feel differently though. Let's face it, what happened to the American Indians over the past few centuries was on the verge of genocide.
I wanted to vote in the No. This is a stupid ficken cause/argument/debate category, but didn't see it. Just dumb. Grow up, grow some thicker skin. If you want to do something to actually help Native Americans, get your ass involved in the problems and poverty going on in the Indian community and make a actual difference.
If all these do-gooders that apparently have nothing better to do would direct their energy towards something that really would make a difference to America, perhaps they could accomplish something meaningful.
The whole name thing is bull****. A few years ago the NCAA determined the North Dakota Fighting Sioux nickname was "hostile and abusive" and made them change it. Yet, the Fighting Irish is good to go. **** the NCAA, **** Washington and **** all the do-gooder tree huggers that have nothing better to do than jack around with a team name.
They leaned on the fla state Seminoles, the tribe had reps tell the NCAA that they wanted the team name to continue as it represented their fighting spirit. Everyone has to be so pc about everything. All new team names will just be vanilla.

Oliver Cromwell is not amused by the "Fighting" moniker.

I think it should be the Washington Teabaggers. A bunch of fat, stupid lazy idiots who are led around by their nose and are relegated to the dustbin of history would be perfect!

It's just words.

What's happening with the Kardashians????
Hmmmm, I like this.

Perhaps the Washington Corporate Oligarchs. Or Globalists. Or "Enemy of Sovereigns."

Related to this topic, I was thinking Whiteskins or Blackskins.
Wow, what a stunner that this thread has quickly circled the bowl of stupidity. Never saw that coming. The dreck is nearly as surprising as those supplying it.

That'll be all for this one.
