Brewers reportedly sign Raimel Tapia.   Tapia, a left-handed hitter and thrower, has played  39 games this year with the Red Sox, for whom he slashed .264/.333/.368.   Better than Singleton and Perkins.

I'm not sure a guy with a .160 SLG is the answer at DH.

The Brewers are starting the following guys:

Urias is now 1 for 23 this year.

Singleton is 3 for 26.

Adames is hitting 209 with a 673 OPS

Weimer is at 213

Anderson is at 226

Their top qualifying hitter for OPS is Yelich and he is 74th in MLB at 779. Owen Miller would be tied for 63rd if he had enough at bats. Tellez is 90th.

On average, every team in baseball has 3 players better than the Brewers best player on offense.

Williams gave up as many runs tonight as he has in his last 34 appearances combined (4).

They literally don't have a position player with offensive production that is in the top 65 players in MLB. They end up with the rejects other teams have given up on and hope that they'll become something more.

It feels like the Brewers are back in the 1993-2007 mode where you know they aren't serious contenders. I hated the Hader trade last year, but I think they need to move some guys and go full rebuild. Maybe now that Yelich is showing some signs of life they can move him too?

The Brewers just have a very weak farm system especially with position players. They really haven't developed anybody in the last 5 years. Almost every guy was acquired in a trade. Sure they traded prospects to get Yelich and Adames but they were all busts except Rasmussen who is oft injured.

They've only drafted one player who has or had more than 10 WAR for their major league career in the first round since 2008 (Mitch Haniger-2012). It was pretty barren for the few years before that as well. Garrett Mitchell is probably the only one that is generating excitement at this point. First round picks aren't everything, but that is generally where you have a chance to grab someone who can contribute quickly. But to not get even a couple of above average players from that round in 15 years is telling,.

They had outstanding overall drafts from 2002-2007 that really set the foundation for the 2008-2019 run of very good baseball.

2008-2014 was weak overall, but especially with position players.

Since then, the outcomes can only be categorized as dreadful.

It’s going to be interesting to see how the Brewers approach the trade deadline.  If they continue to play subpar baseball I can’t imagine they won’t turn more into a selling mode than a buying mode.

It’s such a skittish team (so far) to try to get a handle on and things can change in 6 weeks,  but with all the injuries and lack of hitting I’m not sure this is a contending team.

Burnes is the obvious trade bait but even he has been up and down so I doubt they get what he is worth. The same thing happened last season when Hader hit a bad stretch right before the trade. There just aren't many players on the roster that would make an impact down the stretch for a buyer.

Aslong has they in striking range of a playoff spot, I think based on the fuck up they did with the timing of the Hader trade, they sit tight and hope they can get a windfall in the offseason.

The division is wide open so they can make the playoffs with this roster, probably as a one and done, if they hang on to Burnes. But other than Burnes, Woodie, and Williams, I don't see where losing any other veteran player really lessens their chances of making the playoffs.

This was like a game earlier in the week. One hit in the last 7 innings. All the good pitching in the world couldn't carry this anemic attack. It's amazing how different this offense looks compared to the first month.

Tellez might be of interest to a team needing some left-handed power. He is arbitration eligible next year. He's making 5 million this year and may be in line to double that next year.

The following guys are arbitration eligible in 2024: Tellez, Adames, Woodruff, Burnes, Devin Williams, Lauer, Houser, and Urias. That's a lot of potential salary increase to absorb in one year.

This is not a contending team, so why not try to rebuild the farm system at this point?

Ironically, Yelich has come alive only to have them go on a losing streak. During the losing streak, he's 11 for his last 24 with 2 HRs and 5 RBIs. His OPS is almost 800. Maybe, just maybe, someone gets interested and takes him off their hands?

The way Yelich is hitting they better keep him, he might be their best offensive player. Ouch. Yelich just has so many years left on his contract that it's highly unlikely anybody would take on that contract.
