Local Yocal talk radio down here naming "an unnamed" source said GB may sit Jordy out all pre-season games. It's not a health issue, more of a' eliminate the risk of any injury issue' in pre-season. Carolina's Kalvin Benjamin and WR Steve Smith also rumored to be healthy scratches all of pre-season.

It seems some teams are taking the approach of simply not risking key players getting hurt in what is already considered a way too long pre-season schedule.

Agree?

Could Jordy Nelson be McCarthy's 'maybe one' player not cleared for camp?

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Mike McCarthy wasn’t naming names. But given how careful the Green Bay Packers have been with wide receiver Jordy Nelson's comeback this offseason, it was hard to imagine the Packers head coach was talking about anyone else.

With his team wrapping up its offseason program Thursday with its final minicamp practice, McCarthy was asked whether any of the players who sat out organized team activities or the minicamp with injuries might be in danger of not being ready for the first practice of training camp, which is slated for July 26.

McCarthy, whose personal offseason policy is to not divulge injury information, paused.

“Maybe one that I can think of,” McCarthy replied. “I’ll be disappointed if everybody’s not ready to go, but we’ll see in five weeks.”

Asked directly if that one was Nelson, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during an Aug. 23 preseason game at Pittsburgh and missed the entire 2015 season, McCarthy smirked.

“[No] injury report, right?” he replied.

While there were several other starters and key contributors who missed all of the OTAs and minicamp sessions -- inside linebacker Sam Barrington (foot), right guard T.J. Lang (shoulder) and center Corey Linsley (undisclosed), as well as wide receiver Ty Montgomery (ankle) – the Packers’ ultra-cautious approach with Nelson would lead one to believe that he’s the player McCarthy was referring to. Barrington, Lang, Linsley and Montgomery have all said this offseason that they either hope to or expect to be ready for the start of camp.

Nelson, meanwhile, expressed some frustration last week with not being able to practice yet. Before he and 14 other veterans were excused from the minicamp by McCarthy following Monday’s physicals, Nelson had been limited to rehab work and pitch-and-catch sessions with quarterback Aaron Rodgers on the side.

Nelson said earlier this offseason that he’d tried to convince the team to let him practice at OTAs and minicamp, to no avail, and fellow wide receiver Randall Cobb had contemplated starting a #FREEJORDY campaign on social media.

“Everyone’s scared of it, but I’m not," said Nelson, who took part in his annual charity softball game last weekend. “You can’t run from it. You have to get out there sometime."

RE Smith:

Smith is wholeheartedly on board with that.

"I've been very comfortable throughout my career not playing in the preseason," Smith said Wednesday. "So, I don't have a problem with that. [it's] just four games that don't count and the liability of injury. At the senior-citizen age that I am, I think staying out would be good."

We're probably talking about missing 5-6 series the starting offense will play the entire preseason. I don't think the starters play a snap in the HOF game.

No concern if Jordy gets zero snaps. More concerned that Cook gets looks in those 5-6 series in the preseason.

Rodgers and Jordy could take a two year break and it wouldn't phase either of them. They're ready for live bullets today.

If you are scared, you are going to get hurt. Sit out and get hurt the first game. Need some game action before the first game.

In Jordy's case I would modify this to only as long as it takes to get his timing down with Rodgers.

What sucked so bad about last year was Rodgers wasn't even playing when it happened, which made it especially pointless, even more so than pre-season games already are.

No way in hell I want to see Nelson or Cobb out there if Rodgers isn't.

^^^^^^

When players return from a long period off, they say the biggest thing to get used to is getting hit again. But for many, that takes all of a play or 2. Then it's just like riding a bike.

I also am reminded of James Jones and AR. It didn't even take a TC, preseason, or multiple practices. JJ had huge games at the start of the 2015 season. It's like he never left.

I suspect the same would happen with Jordy. I think MM's biggest challenge would be convincing him to take off the preseason. It seems he wants to play like yesterday.

Jordy and Aaron could play **** the corner in week 1 tomorrow. Jordy sees the defense like Aaron does. If the corner is sitting 8 yards off (Injury play against Pitt) Aaron changes out of run and lets Jordy run his guy 15 yards deep and breaks it off and Aaron throws it before Jordy kills his route. It's Jordys choice to break it out or inside after the catch.

None of us would need a few weeks to re-learn how to put on socks after going barefoot for a year.

Now wait a minute.  You are talking about me.  I practice doing that every morning so I won't forget.

The extra game is such BS really.  I wouldn't play 1 starter in it.  If you get suck with the HOF game, you should just get another week off of no games or something. 4 games for all.

I see no reason for Jordy to get out for more than maybe 1 series in preseason.

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy pre-season because I like watching the guys who have potential and look at the future a bit.  Plus it's Packer Football-ish.

But it has to be in perspective.  Protect the franchise and let the kids grow a bit.

ChillJon....i babysat for the Badger football coach, Paul Chryst......but you knew that right.  Have used that for free drinks in Badgerland forever.   and he was a good boy.  The Chryst kids really loved my sister as their sitter better then me.  I filled in once and they decided if my sister wasn't available then they'd find someone else.   Ha ha ha.  So.....probably a good I only baby sat once for them.

At first I thought you meant "Juggling balls"!

The HOF game needs changes similar to the Pro Bowl. The purists may argue with me, and the opportunity for an extra game for the rookies may have some appeal to teams, but in the end, it's the fans who suffer.
Having draft picks and young players play a game that is somehow supposed to be connected to the HOF, doesn't make sense. Maybe a non-contact game of recently retired players and/or players on current HOF ballots?

I must have missed out on that. We went to Madison for debauchery.

P-ville certainly has changed though both on campus and off. I had not been there in years and last summer drove through on the way back from a wedding and was pretty amazed (especially since the effects of the tornado were still evident).

Beniquez Brown hates you.

Herschel brings up a good point (inadvertently) - but still.

Other WRs are going to put up catches, yards, and points.  When TT looks at the game stats and sees JN isn't even listed, he is going to think JN has been out played.  Maybe he cuts JN before he realizes they told him to sit for the preseason. That is what happens when your GM gets to old.   Just a guess - Herschel didn't see this one coming.

I think Timmy is promoting a flag football game.  May as well - it is where the NFL seems like it is heading.

I think they've started admitting women.
