Phillies just took 2-1 lead on Braves.  As disappointing an end to our beloved Crew’s season the Braves could be bounced twice early.  Especially since been best team in baseball all year.

Former Brewer Orlando Arcia made fun of Harper for getting doubled off first to end the game last night. Harper was told about.

Then tonight he hit two massive home runs and stared down Arcia as he rounded second on both home runs. After the game, he got asked about it and said he definitely meant to stare him down.

Harper is who Yelich was in 2018-19. A guy whose swagger just lifts the whole team.

AZ vs. Phillies/Braves

Some good baseball coming up here in the CS's

So, who wins the East, between Philly and Atlanta? Atlanta had a great season, but when a team does that, I feel they regress, a bit, in the post season. I think Philly takes the DS vs the Braves. I'm not a Phillie's fan, but there it is. Two wild card teams moving on.

From the JSO:

"The timing is especially tough for Woodruff considering he is in his final year of arbitration and was in line to hit free agency in 2024.

With that in mind, there are four plausible scenarios that could occur.

-- The Brewers could tender Woodruff for 2024, end up paying him somewhere around $10 million and hope that he is able to recover and return to pitching at some point;

-- Come to terms with Woodruff on some sort of multi-year deal that compensates him for not pitching most or all of 2024 and then works for both sides for 2025 (or, potentially, beyond);

-- Attempt to work out a trade with another team if a multi-year deal with Milwaukee couldn't be agreed upon;

-- Or, simply non-tender him, leaving Woodruff a free agent and the Brewers with no obligations to their 2014 11th-round pick but also no compensation for his loss.

The tender deadline is Nov. 17."

Woodruff has made 25 million TOTAL in his career. He was probably going to get that per year over 6-7 years had he been healthy going into free agency. It's hard to feel sorry for a guy that's made 25 million, but he turned into the next Ben Sheets.

Burnes is as good as gone. After the Dodgers and Braves both got eliminated this past week, I would expect them (and maybe the NY teams) to be in the market for a trade. But with Burnes being from the West Coast, I'd expect the Dodgers to come after him. The Dodgers have a good farm system. The Brewers to get a at least a couple of good pitching prospects back for him.

The team friendly option makes the most sense for the team, but Woodruff probably has some say in this.  If it’s “team friendly” he’s going to want a lot of years and he’s not getting any younger.

A more likely scenario would be like 3 years at around 20M a year- taking into account this upcoming year.  He might be open to it because in theory he could still get another contract after that.   It wouldn’t kill the Brewers if he doesn’t work out and provides Woodruff a chance to earn more if he performs well.

I think they will give Burnes a 1 year contract with a hefty pay raise especially if Woodruff will sign a team friendly deal saving some $$$$ there.  If they are not in the playoff race at the deadline then trade Burnes.  Any team in contention will snap him up.  Why? They saved themselves millions by not having to pay him for the whole season and still get his services for the stretch run.  The Brewers can not expect Peraltra to shoulder the whole load.

Unless it’s a deal in the 30M range Burnes isn’t signing anything with Milwaukee.   That ship sailed last offseason when they pissed him off and insulted him for like 100K.  Having Scott Boras as his representation doesn’t help matters either.

Milwaukee would be better off trading him now because Burnes for a whole season is worth more than half a season.   The problem is the fans will freak out but hey it’s business.  The Brewers aren’t going to pay.  You can’t have it both ways.   Get a couple of decent prospects and hope one of them turns out to be really good.

He’s gone - there’s no question about it.

My guess is Milwaukee won’t want to face the backlash from the fans before the season starts (dealing him) so a trade deadline move is more likely.   However, it’s totally in the interest of the team to trade him when they can get the most value.  That’s prior to the season.

The Woodruff thing just sucks on so many levels because it puts the team in a major bind for the upcoming season.  Had Woodruff been healthy then it gives you a lot more cushion if Burnes is gone. Maybe Ashby comes back strong and they find another starter with Peralta and Houser can step it up.
