Nelson looked damned good tonite. Both as a possession receiver, and on the deep ball from Rodgers down the left sideline.

I thought perhaps that Jones hadn't suited up, but he got a catch late.

Are we taking that Jordy is the clear #2 after tonight's game, or was there some other issue with Jones that I'm missing? I'm curious as I have a lot of depth at receiver on my fantasy team, and I'm trying to gauge how many balls Jordy will see the rest of the season.

I think the Packers #1 and #2 WRs (and so) is gonna change from week to week. And that's AWESOME. As long as AR gets protection, I think it's gonna be really, really difficult to cover their receivers. Imagine fourth and fifth DBs trying to cover Jones and Driver. And that's not even factoring in a stable of TEs.

"Pick your poison, defenses!"
I think we're going to see a lot of guys looking like they're the #2 WR week-to week. Indeed it could very well be Jordy. But there may be weeks where it looks like it's Cobb, no wait Finley, no now it's Jones, no no Driver hasn't lost a step.

and MM I think learned volumes with Finley's injury in 2010. Namely that there is more toys in the chest then him.

Last year, AR at times was just locked on JerMike and guys like Jennings was no where to be found. Lesson learned and AR is just going to pick apart D's using everyone he can.

Hell even Tom Crabtree and Kuhn got into the mix tonight.
When have the Packers ever been this loaded on offense ? As good as we were in the 90's we did not have this much firepower and depth at the skill positions as we do now.Didn't Ron Wolf mention he regretted not giving #4 enough weapons ? TT has for sure given Aaron the best receiving corps in the league. There are so many ways we will be able to beat defenses. It all comes down to the O line in giving Aaron plenty of time and protection.

you need an aldo nova avatar.

I can't go out of the house much right now since I can't drive, so ya, I am spending a lot of time watching baseball/football and doing fantasy. Big Grin
I don't think anybody is necessarily #2 right now. Not seeing Jones in the mix leads me to believe that he might still be suffering issues with drops in practice and McCarthy/Rogers/Edgar are going with the dependable receivers. It was striking how well the receivers held on to the ball last night. We might have the best overall group of receivers/tight ends ever assembled; the talent level of those ten guys is frightening.
I think everyone needs to let up on Jones. First, it was 1 game. Second, there are only so many balls to go around so there's always going to be a receiver that "disappears" for a game. Hearing fans talking about Jones being a negative is th reason WR's demand the ball like they do. It's talk like this that turns WR's into divas, ie: stats=contributing. I'm sure the match-ups just weren't there last night and once they are, he'll be more involved. AR wouldn't have lobbied for Jones to come back if he planned on throwing him 1 pass per game.

This is something worth revisiting later in the year though...
It's not a knock on Jones, it is kudos to Nelson: how do you take Nelson out of the game when he's towering over everyone, consistently getting open, catching everything thrown his way, and seemingly always on the same page as Rodgers?

The fact is, between the Super Bowl and game one, it is looking (for now at least) like Rodgers/Nelson is the hot combo regadless of "matchups." (And anyway: who doesn't Jordy match up against?)

Sorry to say (but not really): Jones right now is easily the most talented backup in the league.

At least, that is the appearance unless we start running 5 wides without Finley, and really, how do you keep that guy off the field either?
I agree that with regards to Jones one game does not a season make, and he will have his days. But I also wonder if he isn't a great trade piece if we get too thin on the DL or OL. The Packers O can barely keep 5 recievers fed (Finley only 3 catches, Jones only 1) so Jones really becomes a luxury that could be exchanged for someone more useful to the team. If the situation arises.
