I will post this here as the football forum gets more traffic.
I pose this interesting question to you all. We might very well be in the golden age of Wisconsin sports, as has been already discussed. But with the extraordinary success of both the Packers and the Brewers, which sports star is better?
Aaron Rodgers is not only the best quarterback in the league, he might be the best player in the game right now. Sports writers, TV analysts, fans of other teams are praising him at every turn. Joe Theisman and Phil Sims, two NFL Hall of Famers, are calling him the best pure passer they have ever seen. Trent Dilfer said Rodgers is the hottest quarterback he has ever seen, and he is the ultimate combination of Elway, Favre, Warner, Brady and Peyton Manning. He is the all-time leader in regular season and post season quarterback rating. He has been voted to the Pro Bowl, and he won the Super Bowl MVP in one of the most dominant post seasons ever. The Packers have won 11 games in a row with him leading the way. The offense is arguably the best in all the NFL.
Ryan Braun will be one of the top two or three for the National League MVP, and many writers have picked him to win the award. He put up the single greatest offensive season in Brewer history, finishing second in the league in batting, leading the league in slugging and OPS. Only an 0-4 on the final day of the season prevented Braun from being the third player in NL history to finish the season with a .335 average, a .600 slugging percentage, and a 1.000 OPS--and the other two players were both Colorado Rockies playing in Coors Field before the changes to the stadium. He became the second player in team history to hit 30 HR, and steal 30 bases in a season, and he's the ninth player in major league history to hit 150 HR and drive in 500 runs in his first 5 seasons. He is a five time all-star, voted to start the all star game the last 3 seasons. He lead the Brewers to a team record 96 wins this year. In the playoffs, he's taken it to a whole new level, hitting over .500 with 2 HR, 4 2B and 8 RBI in his first 6 games.
The two players are the faces of their respective franchise, and good friends to boot.
To be honest, I don't think I can choose one. The Packers have won it all, and we'll just have to see where the Brewers get to this year. But they haven't been in the league championship series since 1982.
Please share your thoughts, everybody.
