Another reason I'm glad that Spags was hired is that I'm looking forward to our defensive players remembering how to cover, hit and tackle. The fatal flaw of Gregg Williams' defenses was that they were so preoccupied with trying to create turnovers that they forgot the fundamentals. Going for the strip is all well and good as long as you're also in the position to bring your man down. Swatting at the ball as he passes you by wasn't cutting it anymore.

Tramon Williams, Nick Collins, Woodson & Pickett, Sam Shields, AJ Hawk, Morgan Burnett.

You call that "too many misses"?!?!? While they're not all world-beaters...31 teams across the league would enjoy that many misses.

I didn't mention BJ Raji or Clay Matthews for a reason. I think you can figure it out

FYI, Des Bishop 6th round 2007 #192 overall, sandwiched in between Korey Hall & Mason Crosby.

Back on topic....

I think Spags was an excellent hire for the Saints
I didnt realize we drafted Williams, Collins, Woodson, Pickett, Shields, and Hawk in the past 5 seasons.

I will give you Shields because he was a UFA..

But we have whiffed in the draft over the past 5 seasons on the defensive side of the ball except for Matthews and Bishop.

Raji is a joke, he is statistically one of the worst DL in the entire NFL. He is entirely inefficient (while I will admit he has the talent to be good - he does not have the heart).

Back to the last 5 years, the draft has not been very fruitful on the defensive side of the ball, which has led to a very static, soft defense.. which gets gashed by both the run and the pass.

How many guys deserve to have their jobs back next season on D? probably about 4? It was an embarrasing defensive effort this season.

That's laughable. He didn't have a good year but if he wasn't on the defense you'd have a whole lot more to complain about.

Actually, your assessment is laughable.

He was terrible. Both by the numbers and by the eye test. He certainly isnt to shoulder the blame alone, but he really **** the bed.
