I felt the same until someone in the game thread reminded me that he couldn't possibly be worse than Boykins has been this year. His regression is stunning.
Janis has been inactive so apparently the coaches believe he is worse than Boykin. I really like Janis' upside but he's strictly a developmental project at this time. There's absolutely no indication the coaching staff believes he's ready at this point.
Worse than Boykin is pretty vague.
Worse route runner?
Worse hands?
I still think it is more about knowing the offense. Boykin had a lot of reps last year and that put's him a long ways ahead of Janis, in knowledge of the offense and trust from the QB.
Take Boykin out of the picture completely- the organization elevated Kevin Dorsey from the practice squad because they apparently felt he had more to offer currently than Janis did. Janis is only on the active roster because they didn't want to risk exposing him to the waiver wire. Love his upside, but presently he's just developmental material.
Dorsey is another example of a player being in the program longer having been with the team last year. Janis was a 7th rounder for a reason, but that doesn't mean he won't turn into a very good player.
Agree with H5, if Janis knew the offense better, he'd be active.
Boykinhetipballs, is on my new whipping boy list.
When Boykin was the unchallenged # 3, he did fine and showed some decent improvement as well as making a few plays. Now that he isn't, perhaps he is pressing a bit. We know from his interviews that he is always worried about being cut, and last season that seemed strange - this year its different and perhaps the mental stress is causing him to press too much
