As a Mets fan, I hope the guy has as much success with the Mets as he did with keeping the Brewers competitive over the past few years. No more gigantic contracts for old pitchers.

This has been the plan for about 3 years.
The Brewers didnβt want to pay him. Alert the media!
If Stearns is really going to reshape the Mets front office he needs to fire Eppler. He is the one who made all the bad decisions for the last couple of years.
The 1st year worked fine. They won 101 games. This year was just a shit show. Schertzer is done. Verlander is almost done. Losing Diaz was crippling. Nobody in the bullpen did well. Losing diaz wasnt Eppiers fault. I would give him another year because of his Japenese contacts. I doubt they will get Schontei but they could get the other Japanese pitcher coming out.

Scherzer and Verlander have both been OK. Both are on pace to pitch 160-170 innings with WHIP of around 1.10. They weren't the reason the Mets were terrible this year.
The biggest problem the Mets had is that 3 of the 6 pitchers that started the most games for them (other than Verlander, Scherzer, and Senga) were some of the worst starting pitchers in baseball. If they are even average, the Mets are still in contention.

I think a big concern is that Stearns gets there and hires Counsell as the new manager. You know Attanasio isn't going to come close to paying him what the Mets will.

agreed, the japanese kid was pretty good for a rookie. Mcgill and Peterson were horrible. But the bullpen had to be the worse in baseball. If the starters did not go 6 or 7 innings they could not hold it. Like I said, losing Diaz was so huge.
Alonso also was not as good this year after he was hurt. He kept swinging for the fences. Lindor was ok, Nimmo got the power stroke going but his On base % was way down and he just cant steal a base. Their rookie 3b is in over his head. I do like the rookie catcher but he has been hot and cold since he came up. Even Mcneil who can hit in his sleep had problems this year., Hopefully Stearns brings a couple of the Brewer pitchers with him the NY. I dont think Showalter will be back. I have no idean what kind of manager Councell is. I think Showalter is a brilliant manager but sometimes he makes decisions that are just Aaaron Rodgers type of BS, "let me show you how smart I am"

Brewer fans should have come to grips that Counsell is gone after this year a long time ago

Counsell, Woodruff, and Burnes are all probably gone by August 1, 2024. Actually, probably before spring training in February.
