I'm not suggesting any specific player or even that TT reaches for a guy to fill a slot. My point is that historically, GB just doesn't spend many quality picks on running backs. Could be just the way the draft falls. Could be a philosophy. Could be a combination of many things.

Darrell (take the hand-off on a sweep and run the 40 yards directly to the bench in 3.1 seconds and don't stop until the Gatorade is flying and people are literally hurling their bodies out of the way) Thompson was a first round pick, and guess who they really wanted in that draft but got jumped by Dallass to draft?
Emmitt Smith.

Missed that one. Thanks.
LeGarrette Blount?

quote:Green Bay has one of the best offenses in the NFL, but the Packers are lacking a quality running back since Cedric Benson went down with an injury and the front office could make a deal before the trade deadline to give quarterback Aaron Rodgers another weapon.
The latest rumor from Bleacher Report suggests that Green Bay looks into acquiring LeGarrette Blount from Tampa Bay. Blount lost his starting job to rookie Doug Martin, but the 25 year-old has the power and passing catching skills to fit in with the Packers offensive schemes.
Blount gained over 900 total yards in his first two seasons in the league and averaged 4.5 yards per carry during that time, but his recent demotion has cut his numbers down and a change of scenery could help him and the Packers in the second half of the 2012 NFL season.
Green Bay will struggle to pass the ball when the weather gets bad this winter and will need a big back to help carry the load and dealing for Blount now could make a big difference when winter hits and it would probably only cost the team a mid-round draft pick, something they can truly afford to give the running game a boost.

Other than Lattimore, there's no other RB that's worth the high pick.
The guy just got a dislocated knee and was also injured last year.
Benson expects to shed walking boot next week
Benson can return week 14. The Packers have a bye coming up. I doubt they make a move for a filler RB for weeks 11-14 (@DET, @NYG, MIN, DET). Play ARI this week with who they have, take the bye and come back with a healthy Jordy. Jennings could be back in as little as 4 weeks by some reports (surgery tomorrow).

I don't see Blount being a TT target. The word around here is that the Bucs do not trust Blount with pass protection and that is why they were looking to replace him in teh first place.
Seriously?
Whatever it is, the coaches, scheme, and/or the players, the OL has to sack up or AR's going to get killed. There's no excuse for the crap we're watching.
It's like the DL taking up the blocks so the LB's can do their jobs. If the OL stinks how can the RB's do their job?
Stephen Jackson, Jim Brown, Sayers, and Dickerson would all suffer behind our sackless line. And I don't think it's coincidental our RB's are constantly dinged up either.

Out of the boot now. Back to walking in normal shoes very gratifying!

sjax at 3 mil for 8 games plus a 3rd is tough. a 4th or 5th i could be on board with. still not sure it's a huge need though. i thought starks showed some quicks and had had a little explosive step in him from the very limited action he saw. i'm not ready to give up green either. a lot of the runs just weren't there, and i like it that he went to the non-hole anyway instead of bouncing outside and risking a 4-5 yard loss.
edit: 8 games??? i mean 11. still don't think it happens.

Steven has the Green Bay "Dreds". Maybe that is the rumor link.
8 games in, Benson will be back for the last 4... need to get through the next 4 with who they have. Why would they trade for someone for basically 4 games?
Andrew Brandt said on twitter that the chances of GB trading for Steven Jackson are slim to none, not how they roll. He did admit that he thought the same thing about them signing Ced Benson so who knows.

Proceeding with major caution regarding benson. His contract is structured that if he lands on season ending IR, he loses half of his deal. So he is going to say and do things that make it seem like he will be back, which I am sure he does want to return. Saying and doing are two different things. Was there ever an official word on what happened with his foot?

Trying to make your right hand jealous? What a player.
Liz Frank.
I'd see what it took to obtain Jackson. He's the type of back that turns a 2 yard gain into a 5 yard gain. If the goal is winning a Super Bowl this year, he's the type of player that can help get the Packers there.
Accrding to Jeff Fisher Steven Jackson trade rumors were just that, rumors. He was not on the block, the Rams did not call anybody nor did anybody call them. Case closed.

Kiss of death for S Jax continuing w. Rams right there ^^
With an offensive line so poor at opening holes like the Packers have not even the greatest runners ever would have a thousand yards as a Packer.pathetic blocking when a back has to go through the little hole sideways
