I'm torn. Part of me wants to host a Super Bowl party, especially since the Packers are playing in it. But the other part of me doesn't want to bother with playing host and engaging in the social aspect of a Super Bowl party. I want to enjoy all of the pregame coverage, focus 100% on the game while it is being played, and take in the postgame coverage, as the Packers are receiving the Lombardi Trophy. If I have a number of friends over, there will be numerous distractions.
My fantasy since the late 90's was NOT to go the Super Bowl -- it would be to go to Green Bay on Friday night, enjoy the excitement of the community on Saturday and part of Sunday, go to Fuzzy's and watch the game, and be there for the victory parade on Monday or Tuesday, then come home.

According to Travelocity, I could have airfare, a car, and Days Inn Lambeau for under $500. Naturally, I won't be able to make it this year, but I think this may be the first of several opportunities for this part of my bucket list...

5 weeks? You bring new meaning to the term "game jersey".

Flying to M'waukee to take in the game with Old Man Kiel and my sibs. Hoping like Hell for a great shared memory....and not a long sad flight home Monday.

I really hope you are right, but remember that we all thought that 96 was the start of a new dynasty in Green Bay, and for many different reasons, it just didn't happen. If I were you, I'd try my best and do that trip this year.

I really don't want to get ahead of myself, because I would rather just enjoy this current journey of the 2010 team. However, I was just having a similar discussion with a co-worker. I can't help but think that this core group of players - Rodgers, Matthews, Jennings, Williams, Raji, etc. - will be here again. Rodgers just has "it." I don't know how to define "it", but I suspect that "it" will result in Rodgers guiding the Packers to the Super Bowl again. TBD.

Back to the topic at hand, I'm leaning towards being anti-social and not hosting the party. I'm going to be too excited and focused on the game to play host.
for those of you, who will be in this area for SB week, be sure to tune in to ch.4 [the local fox station] they have the best local coverage of SB events.

they have been interviewing local packers and steelers fans on their 9 PM newscast.
Last night they had a man who took the news guy into his packers "man cave"
He had a plethora of packers memorabilia, most of it given to him by his Mother.

he said his Mother was a member of a packers drill team in the 1940's and showed a photo of her in her uniform.

Did the packers have a drill team back then or could she have been a member of a local highschool who got to perform at halftime?

Heading to green bay for the weekend and hopefully Monday for the celebration!

GOOD POINT! Will have to schedule a tentative day off for Monday and/or Tuesday. Took in the return to Lambeau back in '96 and that was just a phenomal experience - even tho it took them forever to get to Lambeau. Might have to take the boy out of kindergarten for the day as well.

Exactly...we had tickets to that and had never really experienced all that before, I didn't get my season tix til the year after...but I think we sat in the stadium about 6-7 hours watching that arrival and parade on the big screens. But after the super bowl was a blast. We parked down near broadway and headed across the bridge, everybody was running around like maniacs and they had all those ice sculptures. Now my 2 boys will be able to experience it and remember it...and the boys are getting Monday off, of course, we live in IL...but they'll deserve it after all the crap they've gotten from bears fans in school.

The Packerettes came first, followed by The Golden Girls.
All dancing to the sweet tones of Wilner Burke and The Packer Lumberjack Band. LOL

ROLL OUT THE BARREL!

Curly Lambeau was dating head majorette Mary Jane Sorgel when he suffered his fatal heart attack while mowing her Strugeon Bay lawn in 1965.

I will be recovering from running the "Surf City Marathon" earlier that morning in Huntington Beach, CA.

Is that the marathon that has two girls for every boy?

From what I've heard, it's the Half Marathon on the same day that has a 2:1 margin. I've never run out there as I'm from Chicago. But if the margin is like that, it should make running it a whole lot more fun!!
