Bears OC makes tearful apology after criticizing Jay Cutler

By on Dec 11 2014, 11:56

Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer made an emotional apology to the team on Monday for publicly criticizing quarterback Jay Cutleraccording to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune. The coach admitted he was critical of the captain's play of late, and expressed as much to the media.

What he did not apologize for, however, was for cosigning on any alleged comments that the team feels like it made a mistake in making Cutler the fourth highest-paid quarterback in the NFL. In fact, sources with the Tribune confirmed Kromer told players he had nothing to do with leaked comments regarding the quarterback's deal.

An NFL.com report suggested that the Bears are experiencing "buyers remorse" from awarding Cutler a seven-year $126.7 million contract that contains $54 million guaranteed. The signal caller leads the NFL in interceptions with 15 and has struggled with consistency. The Bears, whether publicly or privately, can't be satisfied with the on-field results.

Wide receiver Brandon Marshall echoed the same sentiment when he defended his quarterback before saying he understood why the Bears would have misgivings about their decision.

Via NFL.com:

"I guess that's why those guys are the highest paid players out there. Because when you win and everything is going good, they get all the glory. And when it's bad, they take more than what they should take. But I can understand that as far as a businessman, I would have buyer's remorse, too."

At 5-8, the Chicago is looking up at its NFC counterparts when it comes to the postseason picture. Cutler is posting a career-high 91.7 quarterback rating this season, yet has thrown nine interceptions in his last seven games.

"I think the foundation should be strengthened by this. It's not like we're finding out that this happened from another source, that someone's coming to us saying, 'Hey, Krom said this, this and this.' We're finding out from Krom that he said this, which I think is a good thing. He owned up to it. He let everyone know, 'Hey, I made a mistake. This is where we stand. And this is where we need to move on to."

"I wish more guys were like that. I wish we could communicate like that more often because things would be out in the open. They're out in the open right now and we've just got to continue on. I think we've got a strong group of guys on the offensive side that will come together."

Thats Jay Cutlers take on Kromers comments that Jay is sinking this team. And it might be the biggest "I honestly don't give a flying **** where this goes because I'm getting paid" from anyone that doesn't give a ****. "The foundation should be strengthened by this"?!?!?!?!?

Your coach tells reporters you are killing the team and you think the honesty needle is finally pointing up? And Trestman is clearly not going to do a damn thing about any of this. He's too worried about his job.

I can't believe no one is getting broomed over this but it just might actually happen. And that would be unbelievably glorious.

"I'm not gonna take anything personally," Cutler said. "If they want to franchise me, I'm gonna feel good about the situation we're in.

"We're gonna be in our second year of the offense with these guys. We're gonna be better. I'm gonna be better. So it's not personal. It's business."

Jay last year when asked if he would feel slighted if Emery slapped a franchise tag on him. He didn't care then. He didn't care years ago. He doesn't care today. He never cared.

In the NFL. After 5 years as a QB. You are exactlty what you are. And Emery threw a 7 year extension at him with $54 million guaranteed.

Jay was totally fine taking $16 million for 1 year because he didn't give a ****. But Emery would have none of it.

The only possible reason for not wanting to franchise him is wanting it for another player. Is there another player that they could not sign and would need it for over the next couple years? Since it is a 3 year deal essentially they would have spent a few additional million over that span but had the additional flexibility of being able to cut ties and the end of any of the first two years without any dead cap $. What a bunch of boobs.
