No breaking news or anything... just glad he is the Packers GM.

Been following the Miami fiasco - wow.

Vikes are a mess.

Harbaugh given the keys at San Fran.

Erik Walden is a nobody and then is DPOW.

Packers are still one of the younger teams in the league and many of the 1-3 year players are making an impact.

Sam Shields, Howard Green, Frank Zombo, just plug and play with the staff he has assembled. We could go on and on...

The amazing thing about his style and how he goes about things is that the team seems ageless.

Sure you've got vet's who don't have many years left (Pickett, Driver, Clifton, even Woodson-as a corner-safety is a whole another discussion).

But with that he just infuses young players (Bugula, Raji, Shields, Williams) etc so by the time said players are ready to retire or just cant play anymore someone else is usually right there to take there place:

Al Harris=Sam Shields. Prime example.

He's not perfect and he's had his draft flubs (Harrell) and even a rare FA miss (Frank Walker).

But he knows how to retain key players and do it before Feb 28th of their last year when they're about to become a FA or locking them into long contracts neither the player or the team really benefits from.

And when it comes to the draft, more often then not he's right.

Walker didn't seem to be that bad of a miss. He wasn't brought in to start, didn't cost alot, and I really don't remember him being all that bad. He played pretty well as a nickel back for the Queens this year.

Marquand Manuel on the other hand...
Even if the Pack loses this week, in my eyes it still was a good year thanks to the depth Thompson put together. Thompson is going to have to continue his very good work, because the competition is going to get even greater than it already has been.

The Lions in particular have a chance to move into direct competition with the Pack for division titles and beyond as it is pretty clear they've got a good management structure in place and now they've got their "Reggie White" in Suh who is a force to be reckoned with on defense. If they find a way to keep Stafford healthy, they really have a chance to do some damage in the NFC in the future with that nucleus they've put together.
Wow almost 14 positive post on TT. Things are getting out of hand here.
This may upset the fragile balance of the Packer Nation.

If TT starts feeling too many positive vibes it may affect his edge and he may let his gaurd down. This can not happen at this critical point in this season's playoff activity noooooooooooooonnnnnnnnooooooooooo dont upset the karma.

I still didn't think there was any way he was going to even get to us, or we'd work it out where we could take him. But lo and behold, he came right to us   he fell right into my lap.

I think some people don't like TT because of two things: he's pretty much invisible compared to many other GMs, and he doesn't glad-hand. In today's social media/media-driven world, many fans today want their GMs to be more open, appear on TV, and tell them everything that's happening with the team and sugar-coat it, please. That's not TT. He sits in his box at games, doesn't show much emotion, and keeps his cards close to his vest.

And, there's his willingness to jettison players. He isn't afraid to let a fan-favorite Jennings walk, trade a Favre, etc., before they start their downward slide. But all fans see leaving is a favorite and a guy who's still productive. (They are now talking how Jennings is mostly MIA and will almost certainly have to take a pay cut to stay in Minny.)

TT is who he is, and where he should be. Anyone who doesn't see that just doesn't get it.

I don't think TT runs on the "better a year early than a year late" system. I think his decisions are on the over all benefit to the team. Which includes financials, impact on the field and other, less quantifiable effects.

He kept a clearly incapable Donald Driver on for an extra year. And not because he couldn't find another 5th receiver.

There is only one guy on a team worth mortgaging a franchise for...the QB...and only if that QB fits a certain mold...Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Andrew Luck...guys who make everyone around them better.

I find it interesting that some GM's will mortgage their future for QB like VaJayJay, Romo, Stafford, Rivers, ad nauseum.

In pretty much any other franchise in the NFCN, you can bet teams would have $hit the bed, panicked and overpaid Gerg. Not TT.

Yes, he's swung and missed on some personnel moves, but he's also been really shrewd, and passed on some guys that went on to be complete busts.

I don't.  It's really hard to find "the man" for any franchise and the GM's above are going with the devil they know instead of the devil they don't know.  Because as up and down as those QB's are, the likelihood of replacing them with someone that will be worse is even higher.  Multiply that by the fact you need a good coaching staff to groom and refine "the man" if you find him.  Great QB's are hard to find and GB is not only lucky but like 1 in a million lucky.

But "luck" starts from the top.  If you get a president/owner who knows what to look for in a GM, both in terms of organizational structure and scouting, then you have an individual that increases the odds of finding talent in a head coach and players.  That combination means you are more likely to find good players who can be developed by good teachers, etc.  Yes, it's about playing the odds but those good decisions at the top increase the chances that each lower order decision will work out.  So TT selected a head coach who was able to develop the potential of AR.

TT has been on quite a roll.

Ironically, his 2 worst contracts by far in my view were extending Hawk for huge money right after the Super Bowl and giving Brad Jones a significant second contract.

Both of these guys have been paid like top-flight players when, in reality, they were never better than average -- and worse than that most of the time.

The irony is that TT is a former 3-4 inside linebacker I believe.
