I was told this afternoon that the Vikings have an offer of a 2nd RD pick on the table from a team for Percy Harvin. They want a 1st Rounder

They better take it and run, they're nuts if they are looking for a 1st rounder.
Yeah, the Vikings have three(/four) things working against them:
Teams know they need to move him.
He's a jerk and an injury risk.
He's going to "need" a big, new contract when the salary cap isn't going up.

If they lose Harvin and then fail to land Jennings or Wallace, they'd better pray they find a gem in the draft. If they don't get either of those guys or draft a legitimate #1 receiver (very hard to find a first year player that can fill that role), their passing attack could be one of the worst the NFL has seen over the past couple decades next year. I know Frazier/Musgrave and their front office think they're a "running team", but last year's team would have won 4-6 games if Peterson only has a "great" season instead of a once in a generation type season (something like 1400-1600 yards instead of almost 2100 yards). Ponder will not look nearly as good (and he of course looked really awful for the most part last year) when Peterson looks a bit more human next year.
If Ponder is the starter to begin the season I'd expect an extra short leash with Joe "read-option" Webb waiting in the wings.
i think that they will come to terms with Percy Harvin.

There's a boatload of good receiver prospects this year and they have JArius Wright already to fill the slot.

I sure hope they do - guy's never happy, perfect place for him.
How often does a WR prospect come out and look like a #1 guy as a rookie? There's usually 1-2 ever year I guess, so the odds aren't in their favor. If Jarius Wright is their #1 WR on opening day, the Vikings will be in for a whole lot of trouble on offense next year. Peterson isn't going to rush for 2100 yards again. Since that isn't going to happen, they're going to need to make big upgrades to their WR corps and have Ponder take some big strides forward if they want to sniff the playoffs next year.quote:Originally posted by Herschel:quote:Originally posted by Pack-Man:

Harvin isn't a #1, ate least in the traditional sense.
Doesn't really have anything to do with what I said. The fact remains that if they lose him and no one comes to the rescue in the draft and/or FA, they will in all likelihood be really, really bad on offense next year.
I've been a big fan of Harvin as a player but they were 5-2 after he was done for the year.
I think they are a better team with him but they really can't be any worse at the receiver position than they were the last 7 games of last season.

They won those games because Adrian Peterson was playing at a Superman, once in a generation type level. If Peterson had just been "very good" last year (1400-1600 yards), the Vikings were a 5-11 team. Only the most deluded Vikings fans or Christian Ponder's parents would attempt to argue with that statement.
Fan comment from PFT:
quote:Harvin is just a big piece of trash. Has been since he was at Florida.
1. Can’t lay off the bud when he knows he is getting tested at the combine. That just shows how much he really cares about his NFL career, or just shows how much of an idiot he is.
2. Heated exchange with Brad Childress. Throwing a barbell at his head, allegedly. Not that many fans would have really bothred Harvin had he knock him out. But that’s another story for another time.
3. Heated exchange with Leslie Frazier caught on camera in Seattle. If you can’t get along with Frazier, who can you get along with?
4. Heated exchange with Urban Meyer in Florida.
5. Became a grade A jagoff when Childress cut Randy Moss.
6. You want money compared to Larry Fitzgerald and Calvin Johnson. Your not near their class on the field, and your sure as heck not near their class off the field.
7. Your a headache, figurativly and literally.
8. Your soft.

Not a fan nor am I related to the Ponder's but it was more than just Peterson. Their most impressive victory down the stretch was at Houston and it was one of his least productive games of the season. Maybe his two most productive games were in loses.
As much as we hate to admit it, they have a decent team all around, not just an all-world RB. That is why they made the playoffs.
Tell me, how many games do you think the Minnesota Vikings would have won in 2012 if Adrian Peterson had not had what will probably be the best year he'll ever have. How close would they have been to a playoff berth if he had rushed for something like 1400 yards? Only a complete nitwit who knows absolutely nothing about football would give an answer north of 6-10.
Only the QB has that dramatic of an effect on wins and losses. If Minnesota had the running game of say, the Pack, no way they make the playoffs. Because that would make them pathetic at QB, WR and RB . But I do think they are in contention for sure if AP has just his normal All-Pro season. You have to be decent all around (and Minny is pushing that on offense even with AP) or very exceptional in one area to be an NFL playoff team says this nitwit.
The American Institute for Mental Illness generally concedes there are three levels of stupidity. Idiocy, Imbicile, and Moron. Many specialists have argued that Stupid should be included as the 4th and most advanced level of mental deficiency.

You just hit for the cycle.

i have heard multiple rumors that percy harvin stink fingered aaron hernandez after he passed out at a frat party during their uf days.
Jack Youngblood thinks Percy and and Aaron Hernadez are a couple of UF panty wastes. Jack played the 1979 playoffs on a fractured fibula... then the Super Bowl...then the Pro Bowl.

Just STFU while you're way behind.
Do you honestly believe they beat Green Bay in week #17 without AP's super-human effort?
Seriously, shutup!!
Besides Capers vanilla defense, they beat the Pack because of Peterson and Ponder actually playing at a mediocre level (one could also argue lucky re: tipped pass called a completion/Jenkins TD pass).
In week 13 at Green Bay, AP had 210 yards rushing (10 ypc) and the Vikes still lost to the Pack who played a bad game. Possibly his best performance of the season. Why did the Vikes lose? Ponder was Rich Campbell-like bad.
The win in week 17 was due to Ponder's performance more than AP's, IMO. The Vikings are a decent team with a bad QB who finally played mediocre.
