From all the church picnics/VFW fundraisers I went to as a child, I'd say booyah is chicken flavored vegetable soup/gruel for the masses.  Served from a giant pot with an inch thick layer of transparent chicken fat on the top. Usually cooked so long the bones got soft.

It's better now but historically, the last thing to recommend Green Bay for is the cuisine.

For some reason the greater part of the settlers were of the frugal type-Belgians, Dutch, Germans, Poles- who didn't waste too much time or money on flavoring up the food. Cheap and filling were the greatest virtues.

There were/are some exceptional ingredients ( cheeses, yellow perch, beers)

Don't forget the trout boil.

Hungry5....Al's is an excellent greasy spoon right on the river. Corned beef hash very good & burgers are excellent. Good food at Oustanding value. Try it next time you're up there.

This mammoth monster of a meal includes 1/2 pound of ground venison, 1/2 pound of ground bacon, 1/2 pound of certified angus beef ... and that's just the patty.

It's served on a "Big Mother" pretzel bun and topped with crispy fried onions, jalepeno smoked bacon, lettuce, tomato (6 slices!), pickles, secret sauce and a heaping helping of housemade jalepeno cheese (jalepenos, multiple cheddars and BBQ sauce).

I miss the Friday fish frys, and old fashioneds.  We don't have anything like that down here in the south.

Let me get this straight.  There isnt anything like deep fried fish?  In the south?

This place on the East Side for Friday fish fry is insane.  Packed with locals.

The boneless perch is out of this world.  They serve it on a paper plate with raw onions and buttered rye bread and tartar sauce. Take my word for it.

The Schmelt is good too, but the Perch is unbelievable.

Every once in a great while, a local Lions, Kiawanis, church, or similar organization will do a fish fry that is decent enough.
Sadly, catfish dominates, and it's hard to find perch or even bass in grocery stores. But when I can, and the cost isn't prohibitive, I fry it myself at home. Crisco shortening, cast iron skillet, coat with cornmeal...
