Met him.

My cousin does PR for a Green Bay radio station. My brothers (2) and sisters (2) went to the Steeler game at Lambeau two/three years ago. My cousin's radio station had a private room for the "non-rabble" for a pre-game party. Magik Man was/is paid by the station to do some meet and greet stuff for VIP's.

Even though we were decidedly not VIP's when my cousin brought Magik over to introduce him to the 5 Keils', dude was genuinely engaging, friendly and first class all the way. Hung with us way longer than he "had to".

Aces in my book.
The one time I got to talk to Majik, I asked him about what he thought of fans ability to critique a player or a game. Like when fans talk on MBs or call into radio shows and say "Majik had a good game but he underthrew that pass in the EZ and he needs to move his feet better on the rollout...etc..."

He said you just have to laugh it off because the fans are pretty clueless. There is so much more going on, on every play, the average fan just doesn't understand.

Ouch.

He said he thought I was pretty smart.

IIRC.

LOL!!!

I don't think we as fans have a clue either. Everything I state about the condition of the game is based on pure speculative opinion. Until a few years ago I was just as delusional as the rest of you.
He lives down here and I've met him a few times. Very nice guy in person.

He even attended one of our groups annual pre-season kickoff parties (Brak had an invite but couldn't make it) a few years back and brought along his lovely spouse (originally from Menomonee Falls) and some pictures that he autographed for us.

Last year he was at TJ's for the playoff game.

Pratt very nice post.

Holy crap. He had 11 surgeries on that ankle and considered amputation?! Eeker

Just have to highlight this again. I never knew it was THAT bad. He considered amputation? Hey Zeus man.

Seems like a really cool character to me. Hope he is remembered for more than the guy before Favre. Because tell you what, 1989 was an amazing year of football. Beating Montana and the 49ers, the replay game, the comeback vs the Saints.
13 pins?! I'm surprised he has enough bone to hold all that metal in place.

Great piece. He sure did re-energize the fan base. The one thing I remember clearly was the Minnesota sports press calling Majkowski and then Bert a "flash in the pan". Would have been fun to see Majik stay healthy and see what he would have brought to Green Bay under Holmgren.
