Considering his salary is top five when it comes to Packer cap hits in 2018 and I believe is scheduled to be the second or so highest cap hit in 2019, I thought Nick Perry deserved his own topic now that he has played his last game of the 2018 season and hopefully ever in Green Bay.

Perry seems like a decent. He is also way overpaid, has never been much good other than one year, has an extensive injury history and will be 29 before next season begins.

Perry has been counted on to help lead the defense to respectability since he was drafted in 2012. He has never led anyone anywhere good and the defense has rarely been respectable. If there is any way to move on from him he needs to go, but if he is done with the Packers it is worth recalling Perry's impact in Green Bay.

The 2011 team finished 15-1 but the defense stunk. Clay Matthews led the pass rush with 6 sacks and after Nick Collins went down there was no one to play safety.

To fix the defense Ted Thompson devoted his first 6 picks of the 2012 draft to the that side of the ball.

In round 1 Ted took Perry a USC defensive end who announced prior to the draft he had no desire to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. Ted drafted him anyway. In so doing Ted bypassed a safety who went to the Vikings with the very next pick Harrison Smith.

Perry went on to get 2, 4, and 3 sacks in his first three seasons in Green Bay. He also missed a lot of games due to injury and played while limited by injury in several others. Perry had so little impact on the Packers defense that Ted signed a rare free agent in Julius Peppers to start at OLB opposite of Clay Matthews in 2014.

As Harrison Smith turned into an All Pro player for the Vikings, the Packers continued to struggle so badly at safety that M.D. Jennings and Jerron McMillian started in 2013. Desperate Ted then used his first round pick in the 2014 draft on Haha Clinton-Dix a player so great in Green Bay that he was traded away for a 4th round pick earlier this year.

Circling back to Perry his career continued on with more injuries and more unimpressive play until his contract was up in 2016. That year Nick buckled down and got 11 sacks. Ted then gave him a fat new contract

Perry has rewarded the Packers for paying him all that money with a total of 9 sacks over the 21 games he managed to play over the following two years. By comparison, Kyler Fackrell has 8 sacks so far this season alone. Perry is now on injured reserve. Again.

The organization is going to have to eat some money by cutting Perry but it is time to just be done with this human reminder of how the Packers have sucked on defense the past 8 seasons.

No problem with the Perry contract at the time it was signed and still don't have one. Everyone knew the risks involved given his injury history and unfortunately it didn't work out that well. Thankfully Ball structured it so Packers have an easy out with no real cap ramifications. Lots of legitimate areas to criticize TT but don't see this as one of them.

Again, I want you to look at the other 31 teams over the same timeframe & see exactly where they shake out in the draft.

You'll see how much EVERY team, not just the Packers, have even WORSE issues drafting.

I'll take TT's drafting every day & twice on Sunday over the course of a decade & watch me come out on top more times than not.

Oh BTW.....That "brilliant" move the 49'ers made to get the LB'er in the first round a couple years ago?

Yeah.....he's been released

I'll never forget how Lynch & the 49'er brass GUSHED about "stealing" Ruben Foster during the draft.

Of course they should've....his crazy on again, off again, GF recanted her story. She wouldn't testify. Said she was lying.

C'mon man, they had evidence to prosecute & then she recanted everything. I wonder why & how that happened? Is it possible she was given hush money? Nawww.....The Niners would never do that to save face of drafting a player in the first round, would they?!?!? Nawww......NEVER!

My entire point to all of this is, while the Packers have drafted some duds, they've also drafted some pretty decent players & do their best not to draft turds. There is nothing wrong with the Packer drafting process. The challenge is & always will be to select the excellent NFL players. Not only on the field but OFF too. Same as it is for the other 31 teams.

STEVELUKE has to post his Packers mock draft every year so we can all review his selections. This Ted rant shit has gone on long enough.

Why would anyone care about my or any other internet poster's mock drafts?

Only the Packers General Manager's drafting matters to Packers fans.

And while the IN TED WE ALWAYS TRUSTED crowd prefers that his drafting record over the past several years be ignored for obvious reasons, that is sort of hard to do when so many of his draft picks are either not performing very well or getting cut.

Got a feeling Gutey is going to be sending a few more of Ted's gems packing before the start of next season so Ted's apologists may want to avert their eyes for the foreseeable future or possibly take it up with Gutey.

Yeah, it has more to do with you than TT's failings.  On multiple levels.

Bert is gone.  Get over it.
