EXCERPTS FROM GB PRESS GAZETTE:

One of the most controversial rules in the NFL is on the verge of abolishment.

Teams will vote next week on a proposal to eliminate the tuck rule.

It was one of six proposed rule changes announced Thursday by the league’s competition committee, which includes Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy.

Under the proposal, a quarterback who loses the ball while attempting to bring it back to his body will be charged with a fumble.

“It basically changes our tuck rule so that it is a fumble if the player loses possession as he attempts to bring the ball back to his body,” St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher said. “Obviously, if the passer loses control of the ball as the arm is moving forward, it will still be an incomplete pass. But we now say if in the passing motion he attempts to bring the ball back to his body, even if he completes the tuck, and loses the ball in an attempt to bring the ball back to his body, it will be a fumble.”

“As a running back, it’s almost impossible (to not lower your head),’’ said the Dallas Cowboys legend. “The first thing you do is get behind your shoulder pads. That means you’re leaning forward and the first part of contact that’s going to take place is your head, regardless."

So the Schwartz rule hilights just how silly the whole challenge flag carney game has become, and the response is to get rid of one technicality? How about they just go to the review booth and make sure every call is correct rather than making a coach choose which right calls might mean more than others?
