closed school, businesses, BARS, because of the cold when I was a kid.

Cold and snowstorms were always "Here, hold my beer" moments.

Over-litigious attorneys weren't a thing then either.
God bless everyone who is suffering in this terrible weather. I'm grateful we aren't going through the same.
However, living in the metro Atlanta area, I can't help but laugh at the local responses to forecasts of inclement weather.
Our TV weather people are fear mongers, to the point it seems they wish for weather-related incidents (read: deaths), just so they can crow about how accurate they can forecast. After trying to whip everyone into a frenzy for 2-3 days, decisions are made to close schools, local and state government offices, and even some businesses. Of course, when the "big day" arrives, there's nary a drop or flake, and never an explanation.
I've watched it happen many a time, as recently as yesterday....

To be fair, you panic when it drops below 50.

Growing up in NE Wisconsin it was a rare thing to get a snow day or a cold day. Closing schools in Wisconsin is one thing but are they closing BARS? You know its serious when they are doing that.

Not so fast my friend... I have traded Florida winters for the brutal cold of Southern Utah...

It probably says more about the predominant clientele. Oops, sorry. Thought you were talking about today, not QuietOne's past.
I recall the rare snow day. It was of course glorious.
Back in my day, the town kids still went (usually by shanksmare) to school, the farm kids due to the busses inability to pick them up got the day off.
Yep. That changed in our district in about 1968. It was so unfair to the rural kids that they were missing school.
NO school bus today " Junior " , my dad would say, you got 2 legs, you got 2 feet, put your boots on and hit the road. OK dad i would say, and that was just the beginning of my day, my 5 older sisters would just torment me all the way to school, knock me down, pour snow down the back of my jacket, it was just brutal.
wooooo hooooooooo!!!! The latest forecast for central Wis. is 8-12 inches of snow Monday nite thru Tuesday nite. and all my sisters can just BITE-ME.
