Just a bit of buyers remorse rearing up here in Bronco country. Rusty needs to conjure up some magic to silence it.
Denver's QB woes are starting to rival the Bears.
Starting when Elway retired (1999), they had a bit of stability for a few years with Brian Griese and Jake Plummer, and although they made the playoffs three out of 8 years, didn't win anything of significance.
Then a couple of years of Jay Cutler, and a couple of years of Kyle Orton until they signed Manning. Even Manning wasn't a long-term answer, but he accomplished what Elway wanted to.
Manning retired 2016, and it's been a clusterf**k since.
I don't know if Wilson can reverse that trend with the team constructed as it currently is.

Maybe it's the camera angle(s), or it's just my eyes, but it looks to me that these guys aren't taking/getting particularly violent hits to the head, but they are getting serious injuries from them.

I don't see where the Colts and announcers are getting that "forward progress" stuff. Just running across the line doesn't ensure a first down if the catch comes before the line to gain.
Love the thread title. I’m not sure which feels worse, actually getting shot, or watching this abomination of a football game.
Is Rusty and that offense just really bad, or are they underperforming these first five games?
I just wonder if Russell Wilson has lost some of the slipperiness he used to have. That was a big part of his game, extending plays because he was so quick at moving around in the pocket.

I watched the end of the 4th quarter and OT. On the one hand I think I've lost the will to live, on the other I'm extremely thankful the Broncos coach no longer works for us.

Somehow the Broncos found a way to make the final play, with the game on the line, as anticlimactic as the rest of the game.

Don’t get cocky, he may be again soon. How the hell do you take your struggling, undersized, still pretty mobile QB with your LT out of the game on a 4th down in OT and call a play that has him sit in the fucking pocket? That’s abject stupidity.
I thought that was something both teams struggled with.
Given their protection problems, I would expect more quick-throw plays and less 5- or 7-step drop pass plays, yet both teams did the opposite.
With predictable results.

Broncos may be screwed. Hackett is a complete mess. He's as overwhelmed and underprepared as I remember ever seeing in the NFL. His staff is equally as inexperienced so there is no help there. I kind of feel bad. I don't think he had any idea how hard it was going to be as a head coach. If he can't get to 7 wins, he may be one and done with a new ownership group in charge.
And Russ......holy sh*t. They're committed to him for 5 years at about $50m per. They gave up 4 premium draft picks and 2 starters, so effectively 6 young starters. This team has very little young talent (really just Pat Surtain) and hard to get any young talent in 2023 without their 1st and 2nd rounders. Things could get ugly in Denver quick. And I have a front row seat .
It happens in all sports and some professions....because someone is good at the job just below the head job, people think they will have the same success being in charge. Personality / intellect / passion / leadership come into play more than just knowledge for the head position. Just because a college basketball assistant can recruit well doesn't mean he can coach. I've seen a good number of "good" high school assistant principals, that just didn't have intellect to be good principals. In the NFL look no further than Matt Patrica as a guy that just doesn't seem to have the personality to be a head coach.... certainly seems more knowledgeable than their current coach, but he is getting better results.
