Indianapolis - The Sporting News has named Packers GM Ted Thompson its executive of the year for the second time in five years.
A panel of 32 coaches and executives chose Thompson for the award this season. Thompson, with 14 votes, finished ahead of 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke (7), Texans G.M. Rick Smith (5) and Bengals president Mike Brown (3).
Thompson also won the award in 2007 after the Packers went to the NFC Championship game. Both years he won the award, the Packers were eliminated by the New York Giants in the playoffs.
If the Giants win Sunday, it will mean both times they were eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl champion.
