Somewhere down the line, Thon can be good, but DJ Wilson needs the minutes Thon was going to get and Christian Wood deserves a shot also.
Johnson is a terrible 3 point shooter, but is a good defender. He's similar to Sterling Brown, so I'm not sure how much this helps the Bucks.

Yeah. I was disappointed in that also. However, this trade works financially.
Giannis seems pretty broken up about it... but the deal is he wasn’t playing. The Bucks are backed up at C/PF, and thin at SF. Maybe Bud was looking for some lineup versatility. On the surface I don’t know what this deal does for them, other than having a good defense.

Raptors are terrified now. After Sixers got Tobias & Bucks make the trade for Mirotic - they're doing everything they can to stay in the "arms race"
It’s a good move, too. Gasol is a very good defender, can stretch the floor, and distribute. The last time the Bucks faced them the Bucks used Lopez to attack the paint against their undersized bigs. Lopez was 4-5 from 2, all of it in the paint, and had 3 blocks on the other end. This was to let them know he’s not just a stretch 5... he’ll inflict damage inside too.
So for matchup purposes, they can now go after Lopez a little more aggressively, like the Grizzlies did. Lopez only went 4-7 and only 1 three last month, and earlier this season he had 29 points and 6 threes to Lopez’s 6 points on 2-5 from three when the Grizzlies beat the Bucks in Milwaukee in November.
I still don’t think they’re better, but at least the move makes more sense than standing pat.
....and none of it will matter because the Bucks added Mirotic.
Just want to get through these next 27 games unscathed.
