If Vernon Davis were drafted, no need to draft a Finley. And no need to draft a Nelson if you're confident that you'll find true quality to replace Driver (Nelson's a stiff, and heck, wasn't better than a number of receivers still on the board)

LOL, Lukey and WRs? Nothing new.

Clearly would've been other work to do but plenty of picks and money to get it done. Just pointing out that Thompson isn't very good at find the BPA in early rounds. (Another heck: didn't he take Brohm over Henne?)

Actually I've spent most of my time criticizing the ****-sandwich Thompson immediately chose to build up front on the line, along with his inability to add playmakers when available, and his crap job of finding front seven players who can put on pressure.
Not sure how much VD would have helped GB...he was a nut case until Singletary came in there and straightened him out. Now he is a stud. I did want him picked though instead of Hawk and thought it was a lost cause especially after his first 2 years in SF. To be fair that whole draft stunk at the top and all the real impact players were picked much lower down - Ngata, Greenway, Antonio Cromartie, DeAngelo Williams, Nick Mangold...

Nelson pick was bad. He's a nice player and all but there were several guys drafted after him who are better, including several WR.

Then there's Bustin...
I hate the pick of Justin Harrell with a passion...it was stupid and it has, to this point, hurt the Packers. But if you are going to get on TT it isn't because of Raji or Hawk...it has to be about the utter discrace of an offensive line that he has put together. I don't think we have one offensive lineman who is in the top half of players at their position in the league. I wonder, if we have any in the top 2/3's. You can have a couple of weaknesses and survive, but for the entire line to either be too old, or too young or to poor of a player...is pretty sad.
Yes, clearly Thompson's biggest failure is his terrible eye for OL talent. His inability to find a single impact pass rusher is also pretty bad, as his near total aversion to FA and trades. But he's also just not that good on what he prides himself on: finding the BPA in the draft.

Great point. Ae a position that, collectively, has more to do with wins and losses than the QB position, we have no talent on this line. NONE!

At the end of every month I need to trim some old threads but I just cannot help myself when I see posts/threads such as these. We just need to keep these around a little while longer so I bump.

sometimes we need a thread like this to bring us back down to earth.

EDIT: this is another bump? good gravy. we can't talk about the picture thing when there is more breaking news but we constantly want to dig up this stuff?
