Can't wait to find out who the 5 free agents he will be telling us he's signing!!

@PGPackersNews

MT @PeteDougherty: GM Ted Thompson up now at combine press conference.

@PeteDougherty

TT on whether he has enough time to make decision on injured guys like Finley: i think it will work itself out.

@PeteDougherty

TT on Datone Jones; did nice job, fit in sub practices and looking forward to having him do more next year.

@PeteDougherty

TT on possibly using franchise tag on Shields: obviously we don't discuss those things, but we'd like to bring back all our players.

@PeteDougherty

TT on thoughts on this year's draft: hard to rate drafts, won't know how strong or deep for number years down the road.

@PeteDougherty

TT on Dorsey's success with Chiefs: john and andy had great year, very happy for him. he's a real scout, sometimes those are hard to find.

@PeteDougherty

proud of him, wish we would have won as many games as they did.

@PeteDougherty

TT on emphasizing any drills at combine: the drills are part of evaluation but the way they play and body of work in college more important.

@PeteDougherty

TT on going from scouting to being guy who decides picks: you have to rely on your people. Ron Wolf always listened and took advice

@PeteDougherty

to heart. we all do that.

@PeteDougherty

TT on managing cap and having to let guys go: in FA always surprises, our policy is we'd like to keep our own FAs. every year's a little

different and as whole the market is different year in and year out.

@PeteDougherty

TT on Shields: done excellent job for us and one of the fellas we'd like to have back.

@PeteDougherty

TT on draft trade chart by Jimmy Johnson: same as always been, some have own but if others don't have it, it doesn't do much good.

@PeteDougherty

TT on # of starters looking for in a draft: we take it player by player and focus which player can help Packers.

@PeteDougherty

TT want to be strong up middle with ILB and S: yeah, this year we're canvassing all the positions. if we can find somebodey that can help us doesn't matter if interior our outside player.

@PeteDougherty

TT on what he'll do with all that cap room: we dont' talk a lot about the cap and don't make decisions because of the cap,keep it simple

@PeteDougherty

TT on how combine most valuable to him: probably medical exams on players, quite a task they do here. nice to talk to them and see workout .but most are at big schools and we'd be at Pro Days anyway.

@PeteDougherty

TT on whether there are injury prone players; no exact science. in last 20 years sometimes you take player never been in training room ...in college and once get to NFL they end up hurt a lot and vice verse. not exact science. try to look at it, and that's why medical exams key

@PeteDougherty

TT on biggest need this year: i can't say. that's my standard answer. we don't try to attack draft looking at needs, looking for players that can be with us a number of years.

Ted needs to stop giving these Scintillating pressers he letting all the other GM's in on  his complete off season plan. Please TT close you big mouth.

 Turning on  here, as close mouth as the Packers are does anyone think it is suspicious that all these plans the Packers are making are making it to the press. Letting Raji and Pickett leave, getting smaller on the d-line going into free agency in a big way? Last year it was the Packers wanted to sign Green. Is this stuff coming from the Packers brain trust or agents with hidden agenda's?

Per a few recent Tweets, MM actually said some things of interest in his 1-on-1 interviews with local media. Among the nuggets:

  • Bahktiari will stay on the left and Bulaga will slide back to RT. Sherrod likely top backup at both
  • Definitely seems to embrace the idea of Hyde at S, saying "he's a three down player" and could shift position based on personnel. Sure sounds like he'll get a look at S in base.
  • Said they're optimistic about re-signing Finley. Doesn't mean much, but if nothing else sounds like they're confident in the medical.

I thought Bulaga said today MM did not say which side he will play this next season. But it seems logical to move Bulaga back to the right.

If the Packers think Hyde can play Safety and Finley can play that really changes what I thought (and the draftnick crowd))  the Packers will do this offseason.

The more I think that the McCarthy is optimistic about re-signing Finley the more I am blown away by it. Listening to the Packer local media I thought he was done. I know he is a lot bigger but I wonder if he has regaining any of his speed he lost becouse the knee injurry he had  a couple of years ago?

*Until injuries*  This will be the best line seen in Green Bay since Ahman Green was running the ball.  Excited to see what they can do.

Pending how Center shakes out, absolutely. Should even have the depth to survive short-term injuries.

Really hope Bahktiari comes in 15lbs heavier and builds on "impressive for undersized 4th rounder pressed into action" into "quality Left Tackle." I'm expecting he will as it looks like the team is.

Gosh, this gave me a horrible, near PTSD-like, flashback to the 4th and 26 game.

Man, the Packers gouged the Eagles with their running almost the entire game, but that *&$#'ed 3rd and goal at the 1.  (Or was it 4th and goal?  I forget.)

sheesh!

In the second quarter, McNabb led the Eagles on a scoring drive, completing five consecutive passes for 77 yards, including a 45-yard pass to Todd Pinkston. On the last play, his 7-yard touchdown pass to Duce Staley cut it to 14–7. Green Bay took the kickoff and drove 67 yards to the Eagles 1-yard line, featuring a 33-yard run by Green, but on fourth down, Green tripped on guard Mike Wahle's leg and was tackled for no gain. The Packers turned the ball over on downs.

37 rushes for 210 yards and a 5.7 yard average.

Anyone that gives Finley a huge contract at this point is getting a self marketed genius short on productivity, long on potential, and drama they never wanted.

GB needs to sit this one out and see what the market thinks he's worth.

Belicheat gives answers, Goldie; you just can't hear this deep, gutteral caveman grunting.

TT and MM were on NFL Radio yesterday interviewed by Rich Gannon. Absolutely nothing to report. Gannon asked MM about Manziel, McCarthy said he was short but a good player. TT said he was happy to be in town.... nada.

But... on the preceding segment, Booger McFarland and, can't remember who his partner was, were waiting for TT and MM and it was apparent McFarland was going to be a little more aggressive. He and his partner talked about the Packers and McFarland praised the offense and said Rodgers was the best quarterback in football but basically said the defense was crap. He asked, if you were the opposing team, who would you be afraid of besides Mathews? No one. He thought Raji was fat and the linebackers slow, there's no pass rush, all the things we complain about... said that Vernon Davis salivates knowing A.J.Hawk will be covering him. But his harshest criticism was directed at Capers. Said something like, "when you hear Capers you think wow! But why? When will the Capers experiment end? He ain't gettin' it done and never has.

I was so looking forward to him with TT and MM but his hour concluded before they arrived, and he was replaced by Gannon, who proceeded to make nice with his old coach McCarthy. Would have been fun.

Easy out for whomever said that. Do a little homework. Capers has got it done in the past and likely will again.

Don't forget Gannon also does the Packer pre-season games on the local broadcasts. I would bet the Packers have the rights to approve who does those games so you know he will never rock the boast.

If I were the Packers I'd leave Bahktiari on the left side as well.  I think that kid has the talent and ability to be a top notch LT in this league once he gets stronger and figures things out.  He had some games this year where he flat out stoned his opponents which is rare for a rookie mid-round draft pick.

I also like the idea of sliding Bulaga to RT because that's a better natural position for him anyway.  The problem is (like Sherrod) can you really count on him given his injury history?   I think having Barclay around is a good 3rd or 4th option as well.

Hyde moving to safety is an interesting thought but there are two concerns I have with that.  First, he's primary weakness is defending passes over the top and his best strength is his physicality and tackling ability.   If you move him away from the slot or LOS then you lose another reliable tackler.  I know he's a DB and some people think DBs shouldn't be good in run support but unless our LBs get a whole lot better I don't think you can move Hyde, as crazy as that sounds.

If they bring back Finley then I don't think they will draft a TE early but if 88 is gone then I really think TT takes a TE in the first round.   If that's the case then I might be inclined to resign Finley because they need to address S and LB and there will be some good options there in the first and second round.

I know Ryan Shazier is slotted more as an OLB but the guy can flat out run and he's a good tackler and he's nasty.   Sure, he's "only" 6'2" and probably 230 but I'd take him and play him inside.  We may have had some of the slowest ILBs in football last year and he'd be a nice shot in the arm.

In my perfect world they'd draft both he and Borland and then send Jones and Hawk packing.   Our tackling might go from one of the worst groups in the league to one of the better units in the league overnight.
