ESPN screws midwest fans again.

ESPN2 posts a schedule and uses a different one. They can't do nuttin' right !!!!

Not just the Midwest. Wasn't on in SW Florida either.

Figures those idiots would pre-empt it. Now I don't feel so bad for forgetting to record it.

Same here in San Diego. DVR ended up recording whatever crap they had on instead.

Appears that some poker tournament on ESPN was running late, running into Baseball Tonight. So they switched Baseball Tonight to ESPN2, pre-empting both the 49ers and Packers 2011 highlights. Hopefully ESPN will re-air soon. Checked NFL Network, don't see anything on there for the next couple of weeks.

Now scheduled on ESPN2 for July 10 9:00-9:30 PM CT / 10:00-10:30 PM ET.

Watched last night. Underwhelmed by the job NFL Films did on the Packers 2011 highlights. They just show so little imagination, don't tell a good story. Seems to get worse each year. Very disappointing.

Haven't watched it yet, but I'm not surprised it's nothing special. NFL Films' budget has been gutted in recent years, Ed Sabol is retired and Steve Sabol is battling health problems. It won't be long before highlight films like this aren't even made anymore.

I wonder if the broadcast networks or NFL Network will assume this role going forward. Its amazing how little of the old NFL films stuff is shown anymore, and that's a damn shame because they are sitting on a library of spectacular footage

Great points Dan. Maybe you're right, that those are the root cause issues. For us old timers who remember when Sabol and company would put out epic highlight films, the more recent, monotonous, simplistic game-by-game recaps of the season are, simply, an embarrassment. The legendary voice of John Facenda is irreplacable. So is the classic NFL music. But listen to the script, how the story is told, how the players are discussed -- like this example: "And just as Ken Bowman was the pride of the Packers in the offensive line, and as Bob Brown ignited the defense, the entire team took heart from the strength and character of John Brockington."

It's those three things, together -- Facenda, classic NFL music, and the script/story -- that made those highlight films from that era special, and today's, in a word, suck.

No way. The brass at NFL Network are the ones who want to kill the Films division. Shooting, scripting and producing shows like this is expensive. It's a lot easier and more lucrative to show NFL Total Access 10 times a day.
