Maybe itโ€™s as simple as these guys come to UW thinking they can put up #s and get a shot at Sundayโ€™s, but as soon as they are passed on the depth chart they bail one way or another. The Badgers have had 2 RBs get dismissed from the program and 3 enter the transfer portal the last 2 years. Julius Davisโ€™ father is now taking to Twitter, and though heโ€™s since backed off on his initial comments, it would seem that the Badgers are not getting the recruiting right at the RB position.

You saw it on Saturday with Allen- a whole different level of size and speed. Are the Badgers recruiting the right guys? A true freshman and a transfer are your best options? They clearly did not get the right guys between 2018-20 with so much roster turnover at the position.

Allen is a big time player.  I mean, the kid is what, 17?   Heโ€™s a freak of nature.  He committed to UW early on but he could play for many big time programs.

Chez Melusi played for Clemson but got lost in the shuffle and you can see why he gets touches.  Heโ€™s shifty, plays fast and physical, and is a high effort guy.

Berger was a highly touted guy in his own right but really was never a good fit.  His strength was catching passes and he was never going to play physical or tough enough to make a difference. Iโ€™m sure he was also annoyed when they handed the starting gig to Melusi and then also announced Allen was moving to RB.  Clearly, that should have been the case from day one.

This is the classic case where Berger could have approached the team and asked to move to WR, but I think he was butthurt about losing his job when in reality he was never that guy to begin with.

Iโ€™m guessing the Badgers were hoping Allen was going to redshirt. With seasoning starting next year heโ€™d be ready to pop- which I think that is whatโ€™s behind the Mellusi signing- he was meant to be a bridge- give a 17 year old early enrollee a chance to learn the offense and get settled, then unleash him in 2022.

Itโ€™s really possible that Brown came on board and was honest that what these guys that are gone are bringing isnโ€™t going to cut it.
