Don't know if I saw this anywhere else on X4, but heard this morning on Mike & Mike that the Seahags are going to put undercover officers in the stands wearing Niners' jerseys because the fans are so bad. The discussion also mentioned Philadelphia as probably the worst stadium for visitors. It's been three years since I've been to Lambeau, but that was with my 6-year-old son. We had no trouble, and there was no swearing, drunkenness, etc., in the stands that I saw and we were in the end zone. Two years before that I yelled at a guy who swore for the second time since I had my son with me, and the guy shut up. I want to think that GB has the best, most-respectful fans in the world. M&M never mentioned GB, but instead broad-brushed the entire league saying that every stadium should do the same.

Does GB need undercover cops like the Seahags?

There's already lots of undercover cops at NFL games, but the problem is that they are...undercover.

The League needed to trumpet a more visible gesture conferring the illusion of safety; so the opposing fans /cops plan was launched. It might do some good, it might not but its mostly show

NFL-stadium is struggling in many cities and they can't afford to have any fans being afraid or turned off by the experience.

The individual teams, like the Chargers for example, will never admit it-  but if they didn't have visiting fans, they'd be gone. They can barely escape blackouts now

The owners know that the visiting fans can make up the difference and are only too happy to sell a ticket. So they need to accommodate those fans too and the cops in jerseys is a part of that effort

I've been lucky enough to see the Packers play in about a dozen spots; nothing beats Lambeau and I'm not sure I'll spend cash as a visiting fan ever again.

Cops in jerseys or not

Yes, these are some of the issues M&M brought up as well. I cannot imagine how to get kids involved and into stadiums, much less many women, if they do not feel safe. I felt perfectly safe with my kid at Lambeau, although we weren't visiting fans. Perhaps the threat of losing those season tickets also has something to do with keeping GB fans in line!

You are pretty naive if you go to a sporting event.   Or any large gathering where booze is on board for several hours and think that will be a church like setting for your kids.

Just look at the posts of some of the dip****s on this board in a game thread.

It would also be completely demotivating.  If you were exposed to that cavalcade of morons for the first time, would you think you had to work very hard to get ahead in the world?  Nope.  You'd think all you really have to do is avoid eating and throwing your own feces and you'd have a leg up on 90 percent of the dumdums out there.

Agreed with my very close friend from Iowa.  If you're taking a little one to a stadium, you have to at least be ready for some stupidity.

I'd still take my daughter to Lambeau before showing her a game thread.

IIRC, after the Eagles lost to the Packers in Round 1 of the playoffs at Philly in in their run-up to the Super Bowl 45 title, fans roamed thru the area surrounding the stadium, breaking antennas and smashing windows on cars with Wisconsin/Packer-related decals, signs, plates, etc.

I also remember reading some time ago about Minnesota fans who had traveled to Philadelphia for a Viqueen - Eagle tilt.  Verbal abuse, cups of beer, and other debris rained down on them throughout the game.  The Minny fans eventually got up and left.

Philadelphia fans pride themselves on their crude, even criminal behavior. Talking heads like M&M can "tsk, tsk" about it all they want, but nothing will change until the NFL gets real about cracking down on such BS behavior. In the "City of Brotherly Love," they'll need an undercover cop for about every 5 Eagle fans to keep order.

Not trying to burst your bubble when it comes to kids and the NFL at a game, but frankly a kid is not what they want in that seat. What the NFL's ideal fan is at a game is an adult who can legally drink ($$$ beer sales) who has an adult appetite ($$$ food sales) who also has expendable income to buy that genuine Aaron Rodgers jersey at the pro shop for 280.00 plus his/her paying 200-400 dollars for their ticket.

A six year old who's with Mom or Dad who will do none of the above and may eat 1/2 a burger and a few sips of their parents soda is not the leagues target audience. They want butts in seats who are going to spend as much $$ as they can there.

I attended my 1st Packer game at 12. My Dad (an avid fan to this day) wouldn't have considered taking me any younger. I wouldn't have appreciated the game and by then, not only had I heard about every swear word out there (thank you catholic schooling), I was using those same words about every turn I could get away with. My Dad knew that too.

Young kids IMO are best suited for things like family night. Otherwise as others have said ....alcohol +mass adults=language/behavior you best be prepared to handle.

Regarding the original question, yes they need undercover cops at Lambeau, as well as uniformed police.

I've been to games where I have observed less than appropriate behaviour that called for police or stadium security to get involved, usually from obnoxious drunks using foul language or harrasing/bullying (not just good natured ribbing) opposing fans. It's not wide spread or an epidemic, but I have seen it occur.

Also, dont know what the reasons were, but over the past several years I have witnessed cops taking down a fan in the concourse. Three times actually in 3 different games (1 in each). Let me tell you, you dont want to try and evade/resist them, as they take the perp down hard in a violent manner. Was quite astonishing to witness each time. Dont mess with stadium security.

I'm no prude and can tolerate some foul language and less than desirable behaviour, but a small minority pushes the envelope too far, thus the need for stadium security. Without it there would in all probability be  much more of it.

OP: Attending an NFL game, even at Lambeau, isn't like going to church.  You're going to hear yelling, swearing, etc. the whole game.  If that's offensive to you and your family I'd suggest staying at home.  Mind you, I'm not advocating all out madness, but you have to know your environment a bit better than that.  You have a stadium full of people who have been drinking all day and are as jacked up as you get with emotions.  F-bombs will fly early and often, which should be expected.

Undercover coppers at Lambeau?  I'd be shocked if there weren't 20+ in plain clothes.  Like any cross-section of society, the Packer fan base has a bunch of assholes too.

they take the perp down hard in a violent manner

that's pretty much SOP these days anywhere in amerika IMHO.

it's probably for smoking no less....

which reminds me, was reading the fan conduct thang at the Packers website and was astonished to see that even electronic cigarettes are illegal.  also didn't know you can go into Lambeau prior to kickoff and exit back out and then come back in as long as it's before kickoff.

Yea... Pretty sure you get a beat down for smoking.  Good call.

Tdog

Yea, i was politely told by security I could not use my e-cig last game I went to. Had a nice chat with the guy after being informed of this. You can exit before the game starts but only from one door by the Miller gate, and they give you something to get back in with as I recall.

edit: actually, for smoking they'll usually sternly tell you to put it out now. The beat down occurs if you become obstinate and refuse and or run away from them. That happened to a girl who sat in front of us last year, as told by her brother when he got back to his seat and the girl was missing, both drunken buffoons.

This one time in a game thread------I got ass-raped.

I swear.

and they give you something to get back in with as I recall.

now they just rescan your ticket.

Ticketed fans can exit the stadium prior to kickoff and then re-enter at a later time by having their ticket "exit scanned" at the northeast door of the Miller Lite Gate. Once a ticket has been exit scanned it can be used to re-enter the stadium at any time and at any gate.

In the next 10 years.

Sunday Ticket (or whatever it's called in 10 years) will cost $500.00 annually. And it won't be discounted. I could see Sunday Ticket become a 24/7 network that not only shows all the games but on demand replays, All 22, interactive fantasy football content, etc.

The average ticket to an NFL game will be $60.00.

The Blackout rule will go away forever.

NFL owners have to know there's no future in raising ticket/parking/concession prices when staying home is easier/cheaper/convenient. They really don't care where the money comes from as long as it comes from somewhere. If TV revenues cover what they were getting from ticket/parking/concession sales then that's great.

The NFL came up with the 85% ticket sale threshold rule for blackouts and 15 games were still blacked out last year. Blackouts have zero effect on ticket sales. They simply drive the fan base further away. I just see a complete shift in revenue stream for the owners over the next decade.

Better than the alternative.

The problem with technology is that it's making going to a game less and less appealing.

To sit in front your  60" wide screen HDTV  w/ surround sound in a climate controlled environment with your chilled beer and gazing at your smorgasbord of endless food that your wife/sign. other's prepared is becoming more and more appealing then dropping multiple benjamins to see it live.

And I don't know how the NFL fixes that.

I vote with my wallet. Beer & ticket prices are a joke at the stadiums. FYI...I can use the bathroom, get a beer & watch my 60" HDTV for a lot less & have a better experience.

Baseball games now charging $10.25 for a beer. Nope! If everyone followed my lead & didn't buy beer at the stadium, I assure you, the price would come down.

The NFL doesn't need to fix this. In reality they don't want to fix this. They want to find a way to make it even better and then charge you more for it. Which again is why the blackout rule is about to go away forever.

I have two tickets and go with a different friend to each game usually.  Thanks to ticket prices they now hand me $100 day of game - makes it real easy to spend more money than I normally would.  I'm not complaining, just the way it goes after getting lit in the lot for 2 or 3 hours.

It's really a shame that assholes can't control themselves whether they're drunk or not--although they usually are.

And turn something that should be an enjoyable family experience into something you have to worry about taking your kids to.

Of course, the easy solution is to not have beer sales at sporting events. But there is no point in saying that'll never happen.

And God forbid there ever be any railing against alcohol consumption; why that's best saved for us nasty, foul-mouthed, obnoxious smokers. We are the ones that can ruin a good time for everybody, don'tcha know.

As an aside, I've been to games only in Atlanta, and have never had any trouble. I wear my colors, usually take signs, and cheer loudly. I've had people give me the finger, and give some ribbing about the Packers, but that's been it.

Winner winner, this is the exact problem the NFL has with the average fan that would attend games.  I can understand going to 1-2 games, but I would imagine the average fan getting season tix, just isn't worth it anymore.

Back to the original topic, I think all stadiums should have undercover cops in plain clothes.  When 60-70+K people get together, add booze and emotion, things will get out of control.  The NFL is not marketing their product to families, they are marketing it to teen to adult males and to a lesser extent females.

When I went to Pittsburgh (4 years ago), when we got beat on the last play, most people were pretty cool, but was shocked when I got to my seats (went with my g/f at the time (wife now) and family (Steelers fans)) I got hit in the head with a couple of "C" batteries.  I stood up, and was like "really...." and sure enough a few other Steeler fans called the dudes out and they came to apologize.

Regarding the original topic, I think it's great that there are undercover cops in visiting colors.  It may deter enough of the home fans to not be such huge douchebags.

Regarding watching at home, on top of the benefits already mentioned, if you have dvr, you can pause the game and get up and leave if you need to, then FF through all the commercials.

Sure it's fun going to the game and experiencing everything there is to experience, but watching at home, imo, is much better.

The gameday experience at the stadium is worth it if you have season tickets. I would not pay the exorbitant prices people pay for tickets from brokers. When I am at home I will only watch the Packers game live.  I do not pause or record it to watch later. I do record it on another DVR in case I want to go through something that happened in the game.

Duuuuuuude... it's like you're here with me!

dream from heaven

Can't wait to hear (& see on TV hopefully) the issues in the Seattle stands during Sunday Nights game.

From what I heard a couple years ago to open the season vs. the Niners, Seattle fans are real idiots with their pumped-in-noise stadium & threats to opposing fans.

Hmmm....sounds like a certain team in purple.

I read a couple of years ago the the Lambeau crowd is way too old, way too quiet, and way too accommodating to visiting fans.  This has been going on for years, and I think you can see the results.  We need to be more obnoxious, more violent, and more drunk.

Own your house.  Intimidate.

You don't **** with this.
