I don't concur at all on "expected". The Badgers are in this thing to win- they're not  in it to achieve some sort of moral victory.

Quite frankly, they let this one get away. Mental mistakes negating big plays and blown coverages cost them a chance to win a statement game. And all it did Was prove the naysayers right- they haven't played anyone. I don't think Saban or Miles or even that douchebag Meyer are happy when their team "hangs tough" with a top team in their house. I am sure Gary Anderson doesn't either.

Sure, they played tough. But when this one gets reviewed in the film room, the whole team will know they had their chances to seize control of the game and  pissed it away.

In many respects they played good enough to beat Ohio State.  They had almost 400 yards of offense and were even in time of possession, and Hyde was held to less than 100 yards rushing.

However, you can't miss a chip shot FG, drop an easy INT, and have several drive killing penalties (no matter how ticky tack they appeared) and win against a really good opponent.   When you look at the stat sheet, the Buckeyes played almost a flawless game and UW had a chance right at the end to tie it up.   That's encouraging.

What's discouraging is that it seems like the Badgers are just good enough but can't get over that hump.  That's been the story for the last three years now.  They very well could be 5-0 right now with not much standing in their way of an undefeated season but it's not meant to be,

Should be fun to see how the rest of the season goes but they missed a golden opportunity last night to beat OSU.

Two completely different things.  It was not an expected win for Bucky.  Most of the country expected an O$U win.  Wining in the horseshoe would have been an upset.  The Badgers are still in it to win it even if the expectations of the nation are that O$U is the more talented team.  The team expects to win it, but we aren't on the team.  So no, it was not an expected win like Purdue was.  Different scenarios.

Stave did a lot more than I expected, gives me hope about his development.  He still sails balls, throws worm burners, and almost gets receiver killed by being a tic late, but he cut down on those errors last night.  He really is the crux of how good this team can be.  Even with the slowest squad of TE's I have ever seen (w/o Pederson), those guys were getting open because of so much attention to the running game.  It would be nice if there was another WR besides Abby, but for all that lack of talent, he still gets open.  Stave just needs to keep improving so he hits Abby on the move instead of the above types of errant passes.

Some real positives from the defense, despite some horrible, game changing plays.  Dline is better than I thought (man they were held, wow).  Shelton looks like he could become a difference maker.

In the end, Bucky was his own worst enemy and still made a game of it.  I had hoped with Bielema leaving that the team would be able to defend the hail mary, but apparently some habits take awhile to fade away.

OSU played far from a flawless game. They just didnt pay for the mistakes they made.  The turned the ball over 3 times but retained possession by either officials error (bad face mask penalty), mental error (Borland off the line) or physical error (dropped int). Then the coverage mistakes allowed 3 critical TDs in a 1 score game.

When the Badgers watch the film, they'll know they let a big chcnce to rise above in the B1G get awaY. That's what is disappointing to me. It wasn't that they were so completely outclassed that the Badgers were lucky to be in it- they pissed opportunity after opportunity away and only lost by a TD.

But they didn't turn it over.   They also really didn't have a lot of penalties and Miller looked sharp.  Personally, I don't think O$U can play THAT much better than they did against UW.

On the other hand, the Badgers made some critical mental and physical errors that really came back to haunt them,   The missed FG and dropped INT resulted in a 10 point swing.  Sure, the muffed punt that was called back and the "non-fumble" on the awful facemask penalty were big but you know the refs aren't going to be on your side in a game like that.

I do think despite the loss we saw some positive things.  Stave made a leap last night.  The patchwork OL played pretty well albeit a few dumb penalties.  Abby was ridiculous.  And the young secondary, while they gave up some big plays, also showed there is some talent back there.

I really like Anderson's responses after the game too.  They've had a couple of crushing losses and I don't think he's the type of guy that will be OK just to be in those games.  This guy is wired to win those games.

If the Badgers can get another good pass rusher or two and find another decent WR they are in really good shape.  When a guy like Urban Meyer says that 20 and 25 might be the two best runners they will see in the next couple of years that says a lot.
