For most of my adult life my football friends and I has discussed what it is that separates most QB prospects beyond ht/wt and why so many fail.  I often spent much of the discussion talking about -what I described as video vision and pointed out those few Qb's that seemed to possess it.  Of course this doesn't account for all of it but how many QB's w/ great arm talent and physical skills just stink.

I was recently sent an article by one of those friends who came across it while studying something else and I just wonder why more NFL teams don't look into this.  Here is the link

There's visual processing speed, but there's also the effects of practice.  We've all heard good players talk about the game slowing down for them at some point.  They no longer have to process all of the information consciously because it becomes automatic, reflexive, so they can just play without thinking too much.

The meat market known as the NFL Draft....I'm certain they use every tool at their disposal for analyzing the top draft picks. Certainly the first 3-4 rounds

I absolutely agree about the game slowing down.  I think this accounts for guys like Darnold- who when given all day are great line of sight throwers but even tonight against the Bores when he was stressed the old Sam showed up likity split.  We have all seen guys "suddenly get good" at 30- Earl Morall is when I first really noticed it but I am talking about something a little different.  Look at Mitch Trubisky- Jamis Winston and guys like them- the game has slowed down as much as it is going to and their physical gifts get them by but that killer mistake is as Paul Simon said only a moment away.

I think in the 5 years between 09 and 14 Rodgers absolutely epitomized what I think when I talk about video vision.  He would look at all the chaos going on across the LOS and just know what to do w/the football.  Now his unwillingness to throw over the middle to preserve the TD to Int ratio affected this skill.  Brady and Romo also really seemed to have it .

I hate to break it to you all but they're already using this test in the NFL.  That article is from 2015 and I recall this type of test being used pre-draft maybe 2 years ago?  Its called the S2. There was a lot of buzz around it when Stroud and Young were drafted and I haven't heard much about it since then.  There was some controversy around the test so I'm not sure they still use it.

From the borg:

The S2 test has been controversial, particularly after the 2024 NFL Draft. The leaked scores of quarterbacks in the 2023 draft class generated contrasting opinions. For example, Bryce Young, the first overall pick, scored 98%, while C.J. Stroud, who won Offensive Rookie of the Year, scored 18%
