After drafting punter J.K. Scott in the fifth round last weekend, the Packers waived their regular punter Justin Vogel, per source. Will not be a surprise to see Vogel get claimed on waivers.

1 thing about the Packers - They treat players very well - They could've kept him on until final cutdown day under the guise of "competition".
At least this way he has the chance to catch on with another team.
I agree, Boris, but this is hedging a bet a bit too much for mwah.
I'm sure they watched him Punt this morning or yesterday.
Gute called Opie WhizBanger "rare"
Just crossing my fingers he's not another in a long line of kickers that come to the Lambeau Tar Pits to die
I'm about as far from religious as you can get, but this kid seems like a good egg.
I guess Opie can't handle a little competition. But then I did say they burned a pick so it wouldn't matter if Whizburger does suck. It's pretty ****ing stupid to not even keep him in for camp to compete.

Maybe the Pack would rather bring in a different position for competition. Aren't they limited to 92 or so on roster for preseason practice? And as mentioned above, give him plenty of time to hook on with another team if he's clearly not in Packers plans.

Bring back Vogel
I'm good with that as long as I don't feel like yelling, "Jesus!" after his punts.

You’re reaching
Opie must've shown the staff something to get Vogel cut so early.
This isn't a "Mike Sherman stashing a 3rd round punter" because "someone has to be inactive."
Even if WhizBanger flops, we'll find a punter.
Like I said earlier. We ain't doing a whole lot of Punting this year.
Apparently Vogel requested the release so he could get on somewhere else.
Local radio here commented on the oddity of the fact that it was like pulling teeth for Zook to give much of any positive feedback on Vogel last year. This is despite the fact he set a team record in net punting last season. And really MM didn't sing his praises either.
So either Vogel ran over someone's dog or pissed in their raisin bran but somehow it seems like the Packers were bent on replacing him in 2018.
Curious to say the least.
I think that replacing focus needs to start honing in on GOC.

Word I heard was Vogel asked for his release. He was the one who didn't want or like competition.
If true....Good Riddens!
Can’t say I blame him, he had no chance to beat a 5th round draft pick. Probably best for both sides, he can catch on somewhere and compete for a job and Scott will get plenty of reps for punting, kickoff, and holding. Vogel wasn’t a great holder and apparently didn’t kick off, we’re likely better off.
Maybe that's the main reason for the coaches' negative attitude toward Vogel. If they viewed him as mucking up things for Crosby and taking points off the board, they may have been more irritated by him than they would be for just average punting.
Better get Bryan Barker's number ready just in case.
I bet we could sign him for $1.00.
Competition would have been a sham with the results predetermined. Can't blame Vogel a bit and good for the Packers for expediting the inevitable and giving him a better chance to catch on with another team. Inclined to give Gutekunst the benefit of the doubt but the whole thing has been more than a little puzzling.
Not only am I on the Whizburger Wagon, I agree with MJ.
Just throwing this out there but I'm really starting to wonder if all the "malcontents" are really guys who call a spade a spade. Wouldn't be too much of reach considering GOC's "page one" offense and Wizard love.
They could win a Super Bowl and it would still be hard to give MM even half the credit.
Browns claim Vogel. Go figure.
It could have been Minnesota, I suppose.
If MM saw the light after 3200 lumens of obvious were burned into his retinas and he finally figured out he might have been getting in his own way but it leads to a few more Lombardi’s.
Im good.
As long as he fires Moss that is.
