Walden's numbers are almost identical to Matthews' in a number of key statistical categories. Walden's production is listed first, Matthews' production second:

Tackles per snap (one every 11.9, one every 14.7); tackles for loss (three, two); missed tackles (one, two); turnover plays (one, one); passes defensed (four, three); plays of 20 yards or more allowed (one, two); and touchdown passes allowed (one, one).

Rushing the passer is the only area in which Matthews is superior. His total of nine sacks dwarf's Walden's one, and he has a 2-to-1 margin in all pressures, 33Â― to 15.

Matthews is completely deserving of being in the running for NFL defensive player of the year honors. He means everything to Capers' defense.

By the same token, it's high time that the journeyman stigma attached to Walden be dead and buried

As I said before, Walden's performance IMO was outdoing Perry's. Nick very well may be proven to be the better OLB down the road but Walden is not nearly as bad as some on here have made him out to be. OLB play is not only about sacks.
Well, whoever is opposite Clay should have pretty good stats considering all the attention given to Clay. That said, Walden has some ability (I still recall the Bear game) but hasn't been consistent. He may not be as good as Perry in the end, but it appears he's now found the consistency he needs to play at a higher level. Now I'd like to see him find a way to get to the QB when he's blocked one on one.
MaGin had a really interesting article about MM making a big effor to keep players' snap counts down this year after seeing the struggles last year and how many snaps starters were getting. Finally having good enough depth to give Walden a breather now and then has payed off big. Hopefully with the loss of Perry, we won't be seeing Walden wear down when we get into Dec/Jan.

Walden does a lot of good things but getting to the QB isn't one of them. That's pretty important for a 3-4 OLB.

"Thank goodness we were able to sign him and get him back," defensive coordinator Dom Capers said this week. "I really think he's a good football player."

I think that speaks as much to the lack of OLB talent on the Packers roster right now as it does to how well Walden's performed.

The team has just five players headed for unrestricted free agency. Taking care of Walden, either now or early next year, should be their top priority. -Bob McGinn

He'll never be more motivated than over the next 10-11 games so let's hope he makes the most of it. He's a good third guy, a reliable stop gap guy, but I think they're crazy if they sink any significant money into him for an extension

There's no way I'd sign him before the season is over. Let him earn every penny of it with his production this year and sign him afterwards if it's warranted. Any significant injury to him would doubly hurt if it counted against the salary cap for the foreseeable future.

I'd like to have him back next year but a whole lot closer to a vet minimum contract than a multi-year extension with a bonus. I don't foresee a big market for Walden and it shouldn't be difficult to re-sign him for a friendly price.

Edit: because I'm having a hard time believing Walden rushes the passer 30 times a game. ICBW, but that sounds like pass attempts per game, and Walden is on the field.

You're absolutely right. It should be 217 pass rush attempts, not 271. Ironically, 271 is the number of passing snaps Walden has played but I think I just got my number mixed up. I get those numbers from PFF in their pass rush productivity signature stat.

I really like what i've seen from Dezman Moses so far. Once Matthews get back it's possible a Walden-Moses-Zombo rotation on the other side could be productive.
