I bet they take a WR in r2 or r3. They took Cobb when they had Driver, Jennings, Nelson, and Jones. It's true that there was soon to be a lot of turnover in that group, but Nelson is 30, Adams is a FA after 2017, and Cobb's cap number is very high making him a candidate for restructure or release. While I expect Nelson to have at least 2 more good seasons in GB, Adams to be re-signed, and Cobb to be restructured, you can't bank on that. Davis is a good receiver, but I doubt he lasts until r2. If he does then it's a no brainer.

I think we can start nudging an elite edge rusher toward the top of our "bpa" list too.

Nudging? I'd say it's the #1 priority with a bullet. Peppers is old, Perry is a free agent and injury prone even if re-signed, Matthews is injury prone, Jones is unreliable, Fackrell is really raw and you can never have enough good pass rushers with at least three good ones being ideal for a killer defense.

Maybe I should go through some other TE possibilities.  Even Engram is listed as a TE, but he really more like a Swiss army knife at the position.  Kind of light for the position at 6-3, 227, he can block, catch passes, and run the ball.  He is the kind of guy MM would like and would be insurance at RB.  Then there is Jeremy Sprinkle who was accused of shop lifting.  So he may not make TTs list.  If we want to add some receiving punch at the position, there is Blake Jarwin.  And there are a few more like him in this draft.  But the blocking part may never develop.  I know I have over looked Jake Butt - but (NPI) he broke his leg.  So there would be some risk.  He catches passes well, and may still need work on his blocking.  Definitely not as many 6-5 & up guys this year.

I think this will be the classic year that TT (or whoever is picking) throws us all off and we kind of go "who is that?"  Or "why did he pick him?"

I think the BPA philosophy is good to a point but you also need to take a hybrid approach and maybe pick the BPA at a position of need.

Anyhow, I think the positions that need addressed are (in no particular order):

RB - If Phat Eddie comes back I think they need to have someone with some speed out of the backfield or if he doesn't come back I wouldn't hate if they drafted that Texas RB (Freeman?)

WR - need some depth.  Nelson will be 32, not entirely sold on Adams, and you have to wonder if Cobb will be a cap casualty at some point.

OL - a team always need future guys there and depth.

ILB - as much as I like Ryan and Martinez I still would like to see a force inside

CB - Can Shields come back?  if not they need to think about it

DL - same thought as the OL.  You need depth for a rotation

And here is a thought.  What if Capers is let go/retires?  What if the new DC is a 4-3 guy instead of a 3-4 zone blitz guy? That could throw a whole new dimension in to the draft.

I agree we need to remake the TE position.  IF Cook is re-signed, then someone like Bucky Hodges or Jordan Leggett makes sense - play makers who can be red zone threats.  If not then OJ Howard makes more sense since he comes with some blocking ability.

Even if they lose Sunday I doubt they'd be high enough in the draft order to take Howard.

Surprised no one has offered up TJ Watt as an option. Peppers will likely call it a career, Clay is 30 and slowing down, Perry is a free agent, and the only long term options are Fackrell and Elliot. Watt makes a lot of sense at the end of round 1.

I wouldn't mind that one bit and he would be a great choice.  OLB to me could possibly go to the top of the list for a position of need.

I agree we could use a stud CB.  But if we want one, we should take him in round 1.  Humphrey, Tabor, Tankersley, or Sutton would be good picks.  I don't know if Jones has come out yet.  Desmond King is everything you'd want except for tall.  Listed at 5-10 might be very optimistic.  He looks really short on the field.  I also know Adoree Jackson gets a lot of press because of his versatility.  But he seems to wear down as a game gets into the 4th quarter.  Also I fear durability issues with him.  And he also looks shorter than his listed 5-11.  So those are concerns.  There are others who I think can play with a better frame.  With 6-2 & 6-3 WRs you can't be 5-9 and expect to compete.  So we will see.

Two TN guys that they might have interest in:

RB Alvin Kamara in round 1...badly underused at TN, reminds some of Jamaal Charles. Very fast, very instinctive, tough runner, good receiver, good balance, etc.

QB Josh Dobbs in late rounds/FA...identical prospect to Brett Hundley, probably a better runner but not as good of a passer. Didn't have a QB coach in college, so potential as a QB is pretty high. Should graduate this spring with Aerospace Engineering degree.
