What do you expect from the Falcons?

Hi Atlanta.

First off, hope there's no hard feelings from the game a few months back. We're real happy you invited us back.

Hope you don't mind but we brought along a couple new guy's. Mr Finley and Mr Cobb. They didn't play last time.

I expect a shoot out.

I don't care if the line is 59, I'm taking the over. Our offense on the turf is better then those Rams teams. Our defense, without a pass rush, is also looking like those Rams teams.. LOL. Yes, I am exaggerating a touch about the D.

41-30 Packers

The biggest question is will the scoreboard roll over 100 in total points?

I expect the Falcons will give us their best shot, just like everyone else this year.

Our pass D needs to improve or this will be a shootout. I'd expect us to shut down Turner and put a lot of pressure on Ryan. Still, I'll take Rodgers in a dome over anybody any day.

On offense, I expect the Falcons to try and establish their runing game with Turner. They will, of course, try to do that with the intention of setting up the play-action passes.
I would also expect them to concentrate on short- and medium-length passes, where we are most vulnerable, and take the occassional shot downfield if they get a matchup they like.
Lastly, they will want to feature Weems as much as possible on kickoff/punt returns, because they know how to attack our STs.

Green Bay is probably looking at this as needing to score 40 to win.

Horrible game plan but not having Collins and waiting for Zombo and Neal dictate the need for points in this one. Lot's of them.

By the way. Tavaris Jackson threw for 320 yards and 3 TD's against Atlanta yesterday.

Not sure about the punt returns, but he is sure to get a lot of feature time on kickoff returns. AR12 will make sure of that.

Also, I expect Atlanta to not get greedy right before halftime. Anything on their side of the field and less than 30 seconds to go and they'll be taking a knee and heading into the locker room.

I expect they will try and pound Turner to keep us off balance and keep trying to throw deep. Or they will keep throwing deep and attempt to keep up in a shootout. Their D will get shredded though.

Julio Jones long down the sideline and Tony Gonzalez mid-range down the seam - kinda like the Donkeys burned us with yesterday. We've got to avoid turning the ball over and SCORE A LOT OF POINTS.

Smith will DEFINITELY be a poor sport. He needs to re-take the "plays well with others" class.

I think they're going to score 40, don't think they need to post it. I think they will win the game.

AR will prolly have that by half-time if T-joke did that in an entire game. Atlanta/Matty Ice= Denver/Kyle Orton. Another 49-24 type laugher for the Pack.

To expect Rodgers to throw for a boat load of yards and put some points up next Sunday would be far from irresponsible . As to the question whether the Packers think they have to do this to win the game is an entirely different matter. I would think just by looking at film the Packers notice the defiencies in their ability to stop the opponents passing game, and know they have to put up points to be competitive. I think the offense goes into every game looking to put up 40+ (using the number posted earlier). This week will be no different.

When they face decent offenses like ATL I would think the game plan to score, score, score is emphasized even more. McCarthy said so much after the NO game when he stated that the Packers were looking to get the game going at a high pace knowing that it would difficult to slow down Brees and the rest of the offense. I expect much of the same this week although it is arguable if ATL has the talent and speed that NO brought to the table. Who the hell knows how much GB will need to win the game, but I would guess they are expecting a shootout just like many here are. What would make you think differently based on what the team has shown so far in 2011?

Also a week of that stupid NFL Play 60 commercial with the Falcon players, coach and owner on the bus.

I expect them to play exactly like the 2-2 team that they are.

Falcons offense only managed 14 points in the playoff game and 20 during the regular season match up

I think Ryan will have some success unless we rattle him with the rush, but Rodgers will cut that secondary apart, especially now that JMike is on the field. How in God's name will they cover him? I look for him to bounce back with a Bear-like performance. At LEAST TWO TDs....

on O, the falcons get to pick their poison. as long as the O don't turn the ball over we're looking at 30+ points again.

I was so glad to hear the announcers of last week's game talking about AR & MM getting together about finishing off teams/games. Been wanting the pedal to the metal offensive mindset from these guys. why not? when on offense, score. why try to milk a clock when you've got all these weapons that nobody has been able to stop?

I expect Mike Smith to act like a poor sport again. That line about the better team winning "tonight" after the thrashing last year was bush league.

Atlanta is based on the idea of running first and having a solid passing game. Ryan is a QB who throws all the NFL throws. He is a solid QB, but they are not relying on him to beat anyone. When the Bears held Turner to ten carries the game was a blow-out, even though Turner finished with 100 yards. The point is, get up early on the Falcons and they have to throw. Ryan will not bring this team back if we can get moving quickly.

McCarthy knows this... or should know. I expect him to go hard early and get up on this team, similar to how he went right at Denver to end the game early. I hope he is learning how to finish. I look for Rodgers to get to around 350 yards by halftime and then run a more balanced offense in the second half.

Atlanta's defense is ranked higher than GB's.

Kind of hard to judge Alanta's defense on just 4 games. They faced Jay Cutler, the Eagles scored 31 on them, they played Tampa in a minor monsoon, and gave up 28 points to T-Jack and the Seahawks.

Just saw in the paper that the Packers are 5.5 point favorites.

I concur with you and many others, that our defense against the pass has been pretty bad. Atlanta, like the Broncos will exploit the heck out of our secondary. I hope Capers can get the defense to perform better.

I have a few friends who are Donkey backers and they keep pointing out that denver had played three games decided by 2 or 3 points until Sunday so we did not beat St Mary's home for the blind. GB clobbered a better team than folks give them credit for. I just hope GB left a few scores in the bag as Atlanta will be fired up, I think GB will win 34-21 because Atl is going to try and let the air out of the ball with Turner. Should GB get a +10 lead this game could get out of hand as I still don't see a CB who van cover Nelson, forget about Jennings they have trouble with tall and long speed receivers. Jennings should be open all day and Finley could easily look like Moss (with his hand waving I'm open) the whole game!

I would really like to see 52-3 so that I could watch Smith melt down but I suppose I'll have to live through another nail biter.

According to the dope sheet this week, AR is better indoors than out doors.

Last year GB shreaded the #2 defense of the NY Giants at the time. So to me it doesn't make much difference how the opposing defense is ranked.

Also last year GB played Atlanta twice. In the first AR threw for 344 yards and 1 TD. In the second he threw for 366 yards and 3 TDs. He did all that without Grant or Finley. So this will be Atlanta's first game against GB with those 2 guys. Denver showed what happens if you take Finley away. The Bears demonstrated what happens when you limit the WRs.

Atlanta may think the only way to beat the Pack is to keep AR off the field. So I expect the Falcons to run - a lot. The pass would be used enough to keep the Packer defense off balance. But expect Atlanta to use up the clock and limit ARs chances.
