- Run game. RUN GAME. They had a goddamn RUN GAME
- Shields. Welcome back. Him, House, Tramon, Hayward. Secondary is lookin good. Hopefully Woody is back next week
- Big divisional win. 21 straight wins over Detroit in Lambeau. Never gets old
- Crosby missed the 52 yarder, but he made the others, and the last one sealed the game
- Daniels fumble return for TD. Changed the tide of the game and gave them some life
- Ryan Grant. Welcome back!
- Cobb
- Pickett, as usual
- The scoring drive to get them the 24-17 lead. Just beautiful. Ran the ball at will the entire way
- NO INJURIES(I don't think). A freakin miracle

Negatives

- EDS and Saturday
- LB corps. Ravaged by injury, so it is what it is. Clay has to get back for next week
- This team has problems starting out games too slow. Can't be doing this all the time. Fell behind 14-0 quickly. Need better starts
- Frank Zombo. Does literally nothing well

all in all, good win. Division title is right there for the taking next week!

well summed up
+
Barclay held up well
It was fun seeing EDS as a pulling guard which helped the running game
Harris, Grant, and Green all did well
Rodgers on his TD run
Tramon Williams, Shields, and the secondary did their jobs
Daniels on his fumble recovery
Crosby hit 50% of his FG tries

-
Run defense suffered for most of the night
AJ Hawk getting bulled back on his tackles
Rodgers losing pocket presence on his fumble
Letting the Lions RB rune clear pass routes out of the backfield
Big drops by Cobb and Jones
Stupid penalties
Hats off to McCrathy, who stuck with the running game again and ground out another win with the passing game missing components. The D looked horrendous first half, but the fumble 6 was a game changed. I think Detroit goes up 21-0 on the drive, they were really on their heels.

Now we can start plugging in the guys they're missing on D. Shields was great tonight, and next week CMIII and Woody will be back on the field for the Bears with a chance to bury their asses. Things are lining up well. And SF plays NE next week, so no gimme.

Yeah, the day they hired that McCrathy guy was a great day. Thimpson pairing him with that Compers guy was a stroke of genyus. Big Grin

Well played... well played.

They haven't looked that great in the last four weeks, but this team should be significantly improved with Woodson, CMIII, Neal and Wilson coming back on defense, and Lang coming back at LG on offense. Hope that's enough to beat the Giants, Seahawks and 49ers in the playoffs (all teams who beat us already....sort of).

So impressed with the rookies on defense too. This defense has had to rely on Worthy, Daniels, McMillian, Moses and Hayward to play way more snaps than planned at the beginning of the year. I'm enjoying this year, but it'll be fun to watch those five guys and Perry develop with a full offseason.
(+)
- Pass coverage. Welcome back Sammy Shields. House may have started, but Shields took over midway through and played outstanding. Nice to see he hasn't lost anything while he was out. Our secondary is shaping up to be mighty talented, especially with Woodson's return imminent. Thought Williams was excellent tonight. One of the best games i've seen him play all year. Nice to see, especially after a few games where he struggled.

- MIKE DANIEILS! Saw this guy around campus quite a bit last year, loved watching him play at Kinnick, exciting to see him making plays. He seemed to be in on a lot more plays and created some pressures late in the game.

- O Line. Not flawless by any means, Rodgers did a nice job sliding to avoid pressure, but I thought the interior of the line did a much better job than last time against the Lions. With the exception of that one play where Fairley blew EDS right back to the ball, i thought both he and Sitton did very well. The sack-fumble on the 13 yard line was rough. Newhouse made the block and basically got knocked off his guy by Barclay right when Rodgers was scrambling out of the pocket. Tough play.

- Rush game/run blocking. Thought the offensive line, especially the right and interior right side, did an excellent job of opening up wholes and Green did a nice job of finding them, 5.3 yards a carry. And not just with those shotgun runs, but straight up 2 TE sets, pulling guards, power blocking. That's very exciting to see.

- Crosby. Wouldn't normally put a kicker here for doing his job, but he's struggled and he really made a difference tonight.

- Would normally put lack of injuries on here but i refuse to comment on the status or nature of injuries for the rest of the year. When it comes to MM, it just makes my brain hurt.

(-)
- Penalties. Seem to be a lot more of them this year. Younger players = more mistakes. Hopefully the return of guys like Matthews and Woodson can clean that up.

- First half struggles on offense. Wasn't all that bad, but the possession after Shields' pick was especially frustrating. Had all the momentum after going down 14-0 and didn't do anything with it.

- Outside run D in first half. Kept getting beat on counters and outside runs. Zombo, Walden and Moses all struggle at setting the edge against runs
+
Running game. Harris is explosive and runs with an attitude and they need to get him involved the passing game. Green is showing more patience but the OL is finally providing him someplace to run.

Secondary. Nice job by Tramon and the young players continue to impress. Really should have had 2-3 more picks and they need to make the catch when it's there.

Daniels. He's been solid when given the opportunity and I like him better than Worthy at this point.

-
Defense played better in the second half, but the first was brutal.

Offense still isn't in sync. You get the ball at midfield and come away with no points is inexcusable.

Officiating. Don't like to complain about it, but missing the blatant cheap shot on AR by Fairley just shouldn't happen in a league that's supposedly attempting the protect the QB.

Considering that the score at the time was 14-3 Detroit, I find it difficult to see how they would have gone up 21-0. Smiler Unless the refs are so bad that they retroactively remove points from the Packers. I wouldn't put that past them.
Dujan Harris has a burst---that first play--I thought, Holy smokes!...what has gotten into Alex Green----oh... that's what it was..
I thought AJ Hawk actually played a very good game..Detroit had success running the ball, but broke no big or even moderate runs...Raji did a decent job on the nose...Pickett is the best lineman in Green Bay
and hats off to McCarthy...he gets the job done...if you look at the rosters, Detroit is not far behind the Packers with personnel...well Stafford's not Rodgers....but style of play and plan really sets them apart.

I agree, and add one: Never underestimate the power of good coaching. Not only does TT find a guy like JuJuan Harris, but they used him last night in good spots. Look at the assistants: Trog gets all those rookies on the Dline, yet they produce and rotate. Greene gets guys like Jones, Moses and gets them to produce (I see big things for Greene in the future). As does Moss with those kids (he's probably done the best job getting those rookies to play better than many vets).

Overall, this coaching staff doesn't get enough credit from top to bottom. Even Campen can get a guy like Barclay ready to play and be more than serviceable. I am betting that McCarthy's "coaching tree" will be one of the very best when it's all said and done. Philben already is proving that.
+
Harris
Sam Shields
Barclay run blocking
Finley not dropping the ball
MM game planing to give Barclay help...a lot of help...he must read x4

-
Other Packer receivers dropping the ball
Barclay pass blocking...Lions ran several T-E stunts to his side and I don't think he picked up a single one. Let a free rusher at the QB every time. That can be corrected though.
++ Capers and the D staff LINK

quote:

The Green Bay Packers had no other choice Sunday. With only four defensive linemen available, they had to play small ball.

---

Going exclusively with nickel and dime packages, the defense gave up 117 rushing yards in the first half but did enough to help the Packers to a 27-20 victory over the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

---

In taking the 14-0 lead, the Lions ran a combined 23 plays for 159 yards and chewed up 13 minutes 4 seconds.

---

Pickett said the Packers made some subtle adjustments at halftime. After gaining 218 yards in the first half, the Lions gained 168 in the second, with just 18 on the ground.

I'll be honest, I was being a negative POS the first half. I thought MM was leaning too heavily on the pass and Capers wasn't being agressive enough on D.

But MM shifted the game plan, went to a power running game and the D clamped down in the 2nd half. The blocking on Harris' TD was textbook. And the Lions eventually turned back into the Lions.

2 games away from sweeping the division for the second consecutive year.
