I was terribly upset leaving the stadium last night. Gratefully, the Giants fans I saw around were respectful and much better than I had expected. Still, I needed consoling. I was in St. Paul for college the year that the Vikings went 15-1 and did nto reach the Super Bowl. I thought about if I would be haunted by it as much as Vikings fans are still haunted by that season. Then I thought on.
I have the DVD of the great Super Bowl win from just last season. When I get sad I can just sit and watch that. There is no Viking fan who can go to any video recording and remember that great championship season of ... That made this season a little better. It was a tragic lost and a waste of a great team, but not the one and only shot for a team that just poops on your heart.
Then I thought of the two Super Bowls I have seen the Packers win in my 32 years of life. I realized only a Bears fan 49 or older has even lived through the last two Bears' championships. Hell, my dad has lived through seven NFL champion Packers teams. A Bears fan would have to be born in 1933 to say that.
I think about how every team in this division considers the Packers to be their biggest rival (and assume we feel the same about their team).
It was a horrible day and a tough Monday, but if you have trouble sleeping just count NFL titles instead of sheep. Remember you will wake up tomorrow knowing the Bears still suck.
